The Association also lauded the governor for considering more journalists including, Mr Samuel Oluwalana of Daily Independent and others for appointment into his cabinet.

Contained in the press statement jointly signed by the association’s Chairman, Remi Oladoye and Public Relations Officer, Dare Adeniran, its described Ojo Lanre’s appointment as putting a round peg in a round hole,

“Wale Ojo Lanre is a journalist with special interest in the promotion of culture and tourism, a task that has taken him to many countries of the world”.

While expressing optimism in Ojo Lanre’s ability to influence a positive turnaround in the culture and tourism sector in the state, OMPAN also urged Ojo Lanre to maintain the diligence, and outstanding display of love for the culture and tourism sector that have been his hallmark over the years.

In a related development, the  association urged the newly appointed Director-General to take creative decisions that will move the Council forward and ensure that Ekiti retains its place of pride as far as arts and culture are concerned.

OYO state chapter of the Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN), has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other stakeholders for the successful conduct of 2019 elections.

The Association also congratulates the Governor-elect in the state, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde; Deputy Governor-elect, Engr. Remi Olaniyan; Federal and state lawmakers for their respective electoral victories.

This was conveyed through a Press Statement signed by the state Chairman of the Association, Mr. Remi Oladoye and made available to journalists by its PRO, Dare Adeniran.

According to the statement, the group appealed to politicians not to encourage any form of violence that may disturb relative peace in the state.

“There have been rumours of violence in Ibadan and other part of the state, we are imploring the police and other concerned agencies not to spare any one influencing the unholy act no matter how highly placed”.

The Association further implored Engr. Seyi Makinde to learn from the mistakes of his predecessor and make necessary amendments in order to make his tenure a remarkable one, with good governance and balanced appointments and distribution of projects across rural and urban parts of the state.

“Your consistency and advocacy for a better society through your philanthropic gestures and support for the less-privileged in your immediate environment gave you an edge over others in the just concluded guber election.

“We therefore implore you to use your new position to do more, by developing the people and the state. And at the same time be conscious of the need to make people the central focus of your administration, in order not to betray the confidence reposed in you by the electorates, who has chosen you as a preferred candidate for the job,” the statement reads.

The Public Relations Officer of the state chapter of the group, Dare Adeniran expressed the group’s condolences through a press statement signed by its Chairman, Mr Remi Oladoye and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital. The group said Alhaji Arulogun’s death is a loss not only to the Arulogun family but the media family in Oyo State.

The association also commiserated with the leadership of the Nigerian League of Veteran Journalists over the loss of a great member.

“Baba, during his lifetime was an embodiment of knowledge and humility and a legend whose life is worthy of emulation”, the statement reads.

The group further noted that Baba’s good virtue and reputation reflect in the life of his children and people close to him.

While praying for the repose of the soul of the deceased, the association also prayed that God will grant the entire family the fortitude to bear the irredeemable loss.

Receiving the Ekiti State OMPAN team at the Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital; Dr. Taye Babaleye, the Head of Program in the Department of Communications and Media Studies of ABUAD was elated to welcome the delegation into ABUAD community.

He urged the OMPAN body in Ekiti State to maintain consistency and always exercise self censorship, not carrying fake news that will set the political parties against each other or religious bodies against each other. He enjoined the Ekiti OMPAN to ensure it stand out and be willing to work with the ABUAD as a great Institution of learning.

Babaleye, however pledged his readiness to partner with the Association of Online Practitioners and maintain a very good relationship with the association in the area of effective dissemination of information that will continue to project and present ABUAD in a good light.

Mrs. Omolola Oluwasola who is a Specialist in Advertising and Digital Marketing for the Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) was also in attendance.

Dr. Taye Babaleye, the Head of Program in the Department of Communications and Media Studies and Mrs. Omolola Oluwasola, a Specialist in Advertising and Digital Marketing thereafter led the Ekiti OMPAN team to the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Ajisafe where they were well received.

Reacting to the visit, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Ajisafe promised to work in partnership with OMPAN. He expressed his satisfaction over the visit, while pledging to carry along the body in the future events and programmes of the Institution.

Earlier, in his remarks, the State Chairman and Secretary, Abere Ayodele and Emmanuel Adeniran of the Ekiti State OMPAN lauded the founder of the Afe Babalola University, Are Afe Babalola (SAN) for his contributions and impacts he has made upon his community and the state in general.
