OMPAN, in a congratulatory message jointly signed by its state Chairman, Mr Remi Oladoye and  Public Relations Officer, Mr. Dare Adeniran, said, “the new CPS, Mr Taiwo Adisa is an experienced and responsible communications expert.

“Mr Taiwo Adisa is one of the leaders many of us consider as a role model in the media profession and we expect that his involvement in the government will go a long way in projecting the image and policies of the government through effective communication.”

While assuring him of maximum support, the online media group also expressed its readiness for a mutually benefitting collaborations with government, through prompt and effective dissemination of news and other materials on its various platforms.

The group also commended Governor Makinde for the appointment of Alhaji Akeem Azeez as his Personal Assistant, urging him to bring in more credible and responsible journalists into his media team.

“Alhaji Akeem Azeez is trustworthy and a responsible journalist. We are confident that he would not betray the confidence reposed in him by Governor Makinde”, the statement reads.

The Association also lauded the governor for considering more journalists including, Mr Samuel Oluwalana of Daily Independent and others for appointment into his cabinet.

Contained in the press statement jointly signed by the association’s Chairman, Remi Oladoye and Public Relations Officer, Dare Adeniran, its described Ojo Lanre’s appointment as putting a round peg in a round hole,

“Wale Ojo Lanre is a journalist with special interest in the promotion of culture and tourism, a task that has taken him to many countries of the world”.

While expressing optimism in Ojo Lanre’s ability to influence a positive turnaround in the culture and tourism sector in the state, OMPAN also urged Ojo Lanre to maintain the diligence, and outstanding display of love for the culture and tourism sector that have been his hallmark over the years.

In a related development, the  association urged the newly appointed Director-General to take creative decisions that will move the Council forward and ensure that Ekiti retains its place of pride as far as arts and culture are concerned.

OYO state chapter of the Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN), has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other stakeholders for the successful conduct of 2019 elections.

The Association also congratulates the Governor-elect in the state, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde; Deputy Governor-elect, Engr. Remi Olaniyan; Federal and state lawmakers for their respective electoral victories.

This was conveyed through a Press Statement signed by the state Chairman of the Association, Mr. Remi Oladoye and made available to journalists by its PRO, Dare Adeniran.

According to the statement, the group appealed to politicians not to encourage any form of violence that may disturb relative peace in the state.

“There have been rumours of violence in Ibadan and other part of the state, we are imploring the police and other concerned agencies not to spare any one influencing the unholy act no matter how highly placed”.

The Association further implored Engr. Seyi Makinde to learn from the mistakes of his predecessor and make necessary amendments in order to make his tenure a remarkable one, with good governance and balanced appointments and distribution of projects across rural and urban parts of the state.

“Your consistency and advocacy for a better society through your philanthropic gestures and support for the less-privileged in your immediate environment gave you an edge over others in the just concluded guber election.

“We therefore implore you to use your new position to do more, by developing the people and the state. And at the same time be conscious of the need to make people the central focus of your administration, in order not to betray the confidence reposed in you by the electorates, who has chosen you as a preferred candidate for the job,” the statement reads.

Contained in a press release signed by the state Chairman of the Association, Mr. Remi Oladoye and made available to journalists, the seminar with the Theme ‘Online Journalism and Media Integrity in Nigeria’, comes up tomorrow Thursday 27 December, 2018, at Dapo Aderogba Hall, NUJ Press Centre Iyaganku GRA, Ibadan by 10am.

The press statement added that Mr Bisi Oladele, South West Bureau Chief of The Nation Newspaper, is the guest lecturer at the seminar while Ambassador Wale Ojo Lanre, Associate Editor Nigerian Tribune would also be speaking on Developmental Journalism.

The statement reads further, “Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (OMPAN), Oyo State chapter is a group of online journalists who have come together to hoist excellence, professionalism, honesty and objectivity as part of the association’s core values.

“Consequent upon the need to improve the skills and knowledge of our members, however, we are organizing a periodic seminar/workshop for training and teaching members on how to promote media integrity and enhance a better society through balanced and objective news coverage”.

The Public Relations Officer of the state chapter of the group, Dare Adeniran expressed the group’s condolences through a press statement signed by its Chairman, Mr Remi Oladoye and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital. The group said Alhaji Arulogun’s death is a loss not only to the Arulogun family but the media family in Oyo State.

The association also commiserated with the leadership of the Nigerian League of Veteran Journalists over the loss of a great member.

“Baba, during his lifetime was an embodiment of knowledge and humility and a legend whose life is worthy of emulation”, the statement reads.

The group further noted that Baba’s good virtue and reputation reflect in the life of his children and people close to him.

Babaleye, however pledged his readiness to partner with the Association of Online Practitioners and maintain a very good relationship with the association in the area of effective dissemination of information that will continue to project and present ABUAD in a good light.

Mrs. Omolola Oluwasola who is a Specialist in Advertising and Digital Marketing for the Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) was also in attendance.

Dr. Taye Babaleye, the Head of Program in the Department of Communications and Media Studies and Mrs. Omolola Oluwasola, a Specialist in Advertising and Digital Marketing thereafter led the Ekiti OMPAN team to the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Ajisafe where they were well received.

Reacting to the visit, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Ajisafe promised to work in partnership with OMPAN. He expressed his satisfaction over the visit, while pledging to carry along the body in the future events and programmes of the Institution.

Earlier, in his remarks, the State Chairman and Secretary, Abere Ayodele and Emmanuel Adeniran of the Ekiti State OMPAN lauded the founder of the Afe Babalola University, Are Afe Babalola (SAN) for his contributions and impacts he has made upon his community and the state in general.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting, OMPAN’s Deputy National President (South West), Peter Jones Ailuorio, a former News Editor of Leadership Newspaper disclosed that “the association was birthed in April in Owerri and so far, we have launched in Lagos and Ekiti States”. He further noted that the future of journalism is online.

Also, the National Vice President pointed out that online Media has an advantage over the conventional media in that they can break the news as it happens without necessarily waiting till the following day. “Break the news, as long as you have verified, go ahead and publish”, he urged members.

Remarking, Olayinka Agboola, Chairman of the South West Group of Online Publishers, SWEGOP, promised to cooperate with OMPAN, especially in view of it’s national outlook.

In a related development, a former Chairman of the Oyo State Council of the NUJ, Wale Ojo Lanre urged SWEGOP and other bodies to cooperate with OMPAN.

According to him, “Networking and alignment make things work. Let us synergize. Whatever goodness is there, let us tap it. Every connection is a plus”, he reiterated.

An ad-hoc committee was inaugurated to handle the affairs of the Oyo State chapter of the association for the next 12-months.

Remi Oladoye was appointed as the Chairman while Wole Adejumo and Musliudeen Adebayo became the Vice Chairman and Secretary respectively. Patrick Akpu was inaugurated as Assistant Secretary, Dare Adeniran, Public Relations Officer, Tolu Iyiade, Treasurer and Idowu Ayodele of Mega Icon Magazine, Welfare Secretary.

Oladoye in his remarks appreciated the Association, for believing in him to lead the Oyo State chapter.

“We are in for a new thing. OMPAN will move beyond our imagination. We won’t only publish, we will also educate ourselves and organise programmes to emphasise what online journalism is all about. I promise not to disappoint you, with the confidence reposed in me”, he assured.
