Considering his age and role in maintaining peace as well as fast tracking meaningful developments to Oyo State through effective legislation, many people received the news of Hon. Adeyemo’s untimely death with rude shock and disbelief.

One of the problems confronting the state in the past, especially in the 6th Assembly is the legislative crisis but Hon Micheal Adeyemo having served in the 7th Oyo Assembly under the leadership of Hon Monsurat Olajumoke Sunmonu ensured peace in the 8th Assembly.

Adeyemo, a seasoned legal practitioner was loved by all honourable members of the 8th Assembly irrespective of political faiths because of his leadership style and love displayed by him.

Unfortunately, the late Speaker, Adeyemo died few years after the demise of his first wife. His children are now orphans.

The death of the Lanlate born political icon in Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo state remains the subject of discussion in his home town and Ibarapa land. This is indeed a big loss to Oyo State, Ibarapa land, the entire Adeyemo family, especially his aged parents and indeed all his friends and admirers.

Hon. Adesina Michael Adeyemo (AMA) also known as the ‘Gentle Giant’ was the second political figure from Ibarapa land who will emerged as Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly after Hon. Gbolagunte .

No doubt, Hon Adeyemo’s death nearly brought set back to the legislative activities at the chamber but the legislators in their wisdom quickly settled for the minority leader, Hon. Olagunju Ojo to step into the number one position of the Oyo Assembly.

Interestingly, Hon. Olagunju Ojo led Oyo Assembly has, also consolidated on the achievements recorded by the late Speaker, Hon. Adeyemo.

Adeyemo’s nonviolent and peace approach was considered as panacea for the achievements recorded by the 8th Oyo State House of Assembly.

Mr. Speaker, continue to rest in peace, in the bosom of our Lord!

The House gave the commendation on Thursday during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Hon Olagunju Ojo.

According to the Speaker, the payment of gratuity and pensions of workers was a demonstration and commitment the Abiola Ajimobi led government had for welfare of workers across the state.

Hon Olagunju also urged the state government to expedite action on the payment of the remaining arrears of the retired pensioners for advancement of the state.

Similarly, the Oyo State Hospitality and Tourism Board Bill, 2018 was read for the second time.

The bill is for a law to provide for the Establishment Functions of Oyo State Hospitality and Tourism Board and other matters related with.

The lawmakers, which include, the majority leader, Hon Kehinde Subair, Hon Olusegun Ajanaku of Ibadan South West II and Hon Fatai Adesina representing Ibadan South East I state constituency, in their separate remarks called for proper deliberation on the bill.

After extensive deliberation by the lawmakers, the Speaker, Hon Olagunju Ojo forwarded the bill to the appropriate committee for further consideration.

Under Matter Of Urgent Public Importance, Hon Olusegun Ajanaku of Ibadan South West II hinted the House about the demise of former member of the 7th Oyo Assembly, Hon Temitope Olatoye Sugar.

The Speaker, Hon Olagunju Ojo called for a minute silence for the remembrance of the departed federal lawmaker.

The House, however adjourned its sitting till next week Thursday 21st of March.

After the opening prayer offered by the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Olagunju Ojo at the plenary, called for the commencement of the legislative activities.

Prior to the Assembly’s business activities, the Chairman, Parliamentary Caucus, Hon Olusegun Ajanaku called the attention of the legislators to the numbers of honourable members present at the plenary.

Nine (9) out of thirty two (32) members attended the plenary which did not form the  quorum of the members at the plenary.

The Speaker, Hon Ojo later adjourned the plenary till March 12 saying that this will allow members to participate in the March 9 Governorship and state House of Assembly elections.

In a related development, four members of the Oyo State House Assembly who contested for House of representatives’ seats lost their bids into the green chamber.

Those who fell into the category included, the Speaker, Hon Olagunju Ojo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), his Deputy, Hon Abdulwasi Musah of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon Peter Oyetunji of the Zenith Labour (ZLP) and Hon Kehinde Oloya, who also contested on the platform of the African Democratic Party (ADC).

Other members will also know their fate on March 9, whether they would be among the  new members for the 9th Oyo Assembly.
