The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, alongside the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, on Wednesday inspected a sprawling 753-unit housing estate in Abuja previously owned by the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

The estate, recently confiscated and handed over to the Federal Ministry of Housing by the EFCC, marks one of the most high-profile recoveries under President Bola Tinubu’s anti-corruption drive.

Speaking during the tour, Dangiwa disclosed that technical assessments, including structural integrity tests, would begin immediately. The estate, once certified safe, is set to be completed and offered to the public via the Renewed Hope Housing Portal, which is already operational.

“This recovery is a landmark achievement—one of the most significant in the country’s recent history within such a short time,” Dangiwa said. “It reflects our commitment to transparency, accountability, and ensuring that national assets serve the Nigerian people.”

He lauded the EFCC for its diligence and reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to repurpose the seized property to address the country’s housing deficit.

Dangiwa also used the occasion to warn public office holders against indulging in corrupt practices and urged Nigerians to continue supporting the EFCC’s mission of retrieving stolen national assets.

On his part, EFCC Chairman Olukoyede reiterated the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that ill-gotten assets are recovered and redeployed for public use in line with President Tinubu’s directive.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed 27 officers from its workforce over allegations of fraudulent activities and misconduct.

In a statement issued on Monday, the EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, disclosed that the dismissal followed the recommendations of the Staff Disciplinary Committee and subsequent ratification by the Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

Oyewale stated that the identities of the dismissed officers would not be disclosed, but the Commission remains committed to maintaining accountability and integrity within its ranks.

“Every modicum of allegation against any staff of the Commission would always be investigated, including a trending $400,000 claim of a yet-to-be-identified supposed staff of the EFCC against a Sectional Head,” the statement read.

“The core values of the Commission are sacrosanct and would always be held in optimal regard at all times.”

The Commission also warned the public about the activities of impersonators and blackmailers exploiting its name for extortion.

According to the statement, two alleged fraudsters, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, were recently arraigned before Justice Jude Onwuebuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja.

They allegedly demanded $1 million from a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Mohammed Bello-Koko, under the pretense of offering a “soft landing” from a non-existent investigation.

“Olukoyede remains a man of integrity that cannot be swayed by monetary influences. The public is enjoined to always report such disreputable elements to the Commission,” the EFCC emphasized.

The agency reassured Nigerians of its commitment to the fight against corruption, promising to uphold transparency and discipline within its operations.

He pointed to reports and intelligence indicating that unless the current trend of youth involvement in cybercrimes is addressed and reversed, it could pose a threat to the future leadership of the nation.

According to a statement by the commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, contrary to reports, the EFCC boss did not assert that “seven out of 10” Nigerian students are criminals.

Oyewale added that “His primary focus is on disrupting the pattern of widespread youth engagement in cybercrimes”.

The EFCC further assured the public that Olukoyede is dedicated to the advancement of Nigerian youths, underscoring his call for collaborative interventions to provide them with more productive and sustainable alternatives.

The new Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has instructed staff of the commission to immediately declare their assets in line with civil service regulations and procedures,” announced the spokesperson for the commission, Dele Oyewale, in a statement on Tuesday.

Olukoyede issued the directive during a meeting with the staff at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, stating, “All of us are going to declare our assets; from Level 17, downward. I did mine, so there’s no reason for anyone to be afraid to do the same. Even the commission’s secretary did, you all may also have done it in the past, but there’s a need for all of us to do it again. We will declare our assets, and we are going to investigate them.”

He further emphasised, “We must live above board by setting the pace with good examples. As anti-corruption fighters, our hands must be clean, and so we must declare our assets.”

Olukoyede urged the staff of the commission to pay more attention to the basis of fighting economic and financial crimes, with a focus on growing the nation’s economy, creating the right environment for enhanced investment, and strengthening the productive base of the economy.

The EFCC boss also encouraged staff to be professional, thorough in their engagements, rich in integrity, and non-partisan, saying, “We must do our job to add value to the nation. Investors must have confidence in the economy, and we must help the country be governed in an accountable and transparent manner. By doing this, it will offer us a new direction to redeem the image of the nation.”
