Former aide of the immediate past Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state, Mr Inaolaji Akinloye Ridwan has raised alarm over threat to his life by an unknown person.

Already, the former Liaison Officer to Oyo state government on Information and a social commentator, Inaolaji has petitioned the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shina Olukolu alleging that his life is no longer safe.

In a petition dated February 5, 2020 and addressed to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Inaolaji Akinloye Ridwan alleged that on the 24th day of January, 2020, briefly after contributing to a radio call in programme in Ibadan, he received a call on his contact phone number 08038604085 by an unknown person around 11:37pm in the late hours of the midnight who threatened him severely and severally with death. The governor’s aide added that the said unknown person again warned him sternly never to participate (I.e Call in to contribute or attended any invited radio programme) in any radio or other on air presentation, reechoing that his life has been heavily paid for.

The petition written by his lawyers Othniel Idowu Falana ESQ, on behalf of Inaolaji titled “Petition Against Incessant Threat to Life of Inaolaji Akinloye Ridwan By An Unknown Individual and Appeal to Safe The Life of Inaolaji Akinloye Ridwan From Untimely Death And Constant Threat to His Life” respectively.

According to the petition made available to Mega Icon Magazine, following this constant threat by the said unknown person, Inaolaji had approached the Akobo Police Station to lodge a complaint, where he was asked to write a statement in that regard for appropriate documentation and swift response to the complaint. He also informed that he went to the Oyo State Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Dugbe division to further lodged the complaint of incessant threat to his life.

The petition reads in part, “It is our client instruction to us that on the 24th day of January, 2020, briefly after contributing to a radio call in programme in Ibadan, Oyo state, he received a call on his contact phone number 08038604085 by an unknown person around 11:37pm in the late hours of the midnight who threatened him severely and severally with death. Furthermore, our client informed us that the said unknown person again warned him sternly never to participate (I.e call in to contribute or attended any invited radio programme) in any radio or other on air presentation again, stating further that our client’s life has been heavily paid for.

“On the following day around the same time, the unknown person in further effort called our client reminding him of his previous threat to kill him thereby telling our client to get really prepared as he was set to kill our client before the end of last month, January 2020. This was also followed with series of continuous threat by the same unknown person to our client and this has made our client to continue to live in danger and apprehension of losing his life untimely.

“Following this constant threat by the said unknown person, our client approached the Akobo Police Station to lodge a complaint, where he was asked to write a statement in that regard for appropriate documentation and swift response to the.said complaint. Our client also informed us that he went to the Oyo State Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Dugbe division to further lodge the complaint of incessant threat to his life by this unknown individual.

It added, “Notwithstanding, the all legal and important steps our client has taken to ensure safety of his life and property, it is however unfortunate for our client to have received another phone call from the same unknown person on Thursday, the 30th day of January, 2020 around 11:22am in the forenoon where he was again threatened, and now with a more fearful and serious intention from the unknown person. Our client informs us that the unknown person told him to read about the story of a Barber at Gbaremu who was brutally assassinated and he should thread caution otherwise he may have to pay with his dear life.

“We therefore write to inform your good office and also to appeal to you that the life and property of our client is very precious just like that of every other individual citizen of this great country and hence should be protected jealously without reservation. Our client has the right to be able to move freely and make meaningful contributions to the development of our dear country provided he does same under the ambit of the law. Which if our client has even even acted outside the law, he has to be properly tried for same and not arbitrarily threatened and killed by any person known or unknown.

Oyo state chapter of the Association of Local Government Of Nigeria, ALGON on Thursday called on the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Shina Olukolu to advise the state government led by Engr Seyi Makinde to submit to the rule of law by obeying the recent supreme court judgement which barred all State Governors and House of Assemblies from dissolving democratically elected local government Chairmen and Councillors and replacing them with illegal Caretaker Committees.

It also stated that there was no step taken in respect of the current imbroglio between the ALGON and the State Government that does not followed due process of law, noting that none of these steps taken without the knowledge of the Police boss and the Oyo state command which he superintends as letters in respect of the imbroglio were at different times served his office.

The Commissioner of Police , Olukolu had on Wednesday condemned the call by ALGON, describing the action as a recipe for chaos, lawlessness and unwittingly encouraging disturbance of public peace, which he said will not be allowed by the Command.

Olukolu, in a statement signed by the command’s spokesman, Olugbenga Fadeyi, a Superintendent of Police in Ibadan admitted that all the executive chairmen, vice chairmen, councillors and political appointees have been dissolved by the current Oyo state government.

The statement entitled: ” Re- Oyo ALGON directs members to resume duties on 18th December , 2019 : An appeal for reason as against emotions “, came on the heels of heavy security beef up around local government councils across the state.

But, in a statement signed by the state ALGON gaffer, Prince Abass Ayodeji Aleshinloye in Ibadan, recalled, “our letter dated back 31st May, 2019 which was received on 3rd June, 2019 notifying you about the dissolution of Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas and even the threat to life that follows. Alongside this, copies of both the Supreme Court judgement which rendered both the Governor and the House of Assembly incapable to dissolve democratically elected Local Government Chairmen and Councillors and judgement of Court of Appeals which they later appeal were all sent to your office for perusal and actions. Equally, a letter dated 2nd December, 2019 and received in your office 3rd December, 2019 hinting you ahead of time about the plan of the Governor to impose an illegal Caretaker Committee to occupy the seats that are yet to be rendered vacant and the likely consequence if they dare carry out this unlawful arrangements.

“With this and other related development, we at ALGON from inception, are not doing anything outside the provision of the law. And we assure you as law abiding citizens, we would not do such. We appreciate your advice and warning but we will appreciate it better if you could extend the same token of advice to Governor Seyi led administration to take cognisance of the following:

“May 6th, 2019 High Court judgement on the elected Local Government Officials which his administration has appealed against (pending).

“The recent Supreme Court judgement which barred all State Governors and House of Assembly from dissolving democratically elected Council Officials and replacing them with illegal Caretaker arrangements.

“The newly released NFIU guidelines forbidden Caretakers to access Local Government funds.
All these documents are being resent to you again”.

Prince Aleshinloye thanked the Police Command for cautioning the association to be law abiding.

The association, however assured that it will continue in the path of legality and will do nothing but to always respect the rule of law. It then called on the commissioner of police to also intervene in order to ensure peace and good governance in the state.

Commercial activities at the Shasha market in Akinyele Local Government area of Ibadan, one of the largest vegetable markets in Oyo state were halted on Friday as a result of a violent disruption.

According to an eyewitness account, a disgruntled scrap dealer who was prevented from defecating on a particular spot near the market started the trouble.

It is said that the scarp dealer went away only to return with his friends to attack those who drove him off.

Meanwhile, the Oyo state police command has confirmed that it has arrested no fewer than nine people in connection with the violent attack on traders and residents of shasha market.

The state police commissioner, Mr Shina Olukolu, who made this known to journalists late on Friday, also warned mischievous persons to desist from peddling falsehood regarding the issue, especially on social media where it had been reported that a tribal clash had ensued within the community.

The police boss stressed that the crisis was quelled with the joint efforts of both the Yoruba and Hausa community in and around the market, assuring that nothing would be allowed to truncate the peaceful co-existence that has existed in the community for decades.
