A member of the opposition  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Presidential Campaign Council, Adetokunbo Pearse, on Monday, said Nigerians have a right to know the actual landing cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Pearse said thorough scrutiny should be carried out on the Managing Director of the  Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, over the fluctuation of landing cost.

“The way you solve a problem is to go to the source. Let the president go and interrogate NNPCL and let us find out – announce to the country what the landing cost is so that we know exactly what we can make, and how much we can sell oil that will not cripple the economy. That’s what we need to do”.

The PDP chieftain lamented that going back to the NNPC would affect the landing cost of imported fuel.

“When you go to the NNPCL, you find out that the landing cost is so low, the price that is given. The landing cost at one point was 50 naira per litre, now it’s about 150 per litre.”

Pearse, who was the Lagos State Coordinator, Atiku/ Okowa Presidential Campaign Support Group, noted that the emergence of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and the repair of the local refineries ought to reduce the landing cost of the product in contrast to the NNPCL boss’ comment.

“One of the reasons I said we need to go to NNPCL is this: Kyari said on this Channels that even when Dangote oil comes fully on board, the price of pump fuel will not reduce – even with the production of oil in Port Harcourt and elsewhere. That man needs to be investigated.

“Of course, if you refine your oil here, the man is already telling us that even when it is refined here, it is still not going to go down and you and I know that if we have our own refineries and we are refining the product here, the price should be more competitive,” he argued.

Hon Gaya, also   described Mustapha’s reappointment as timely, just as he urged  the  re-appointed SGF as well as the newly appointed Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr Mele Kolo Kyari  to sustain their good works, averring that the duo  will continue to complement the efforts of President Buhari in taking Nigeria to the next level.

The lawmaker in a statement signed by his media office and made available to newsmen in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Friday  assured that the Muhammadu Buhari led   All Progressives Congress (APC)  federal government will continue to work assiduously to improve the well being of Nigerians and to take Nigeria to enviable heights.

According to Gaya, “the duo of Mustapha and Kyari have the pedigree to work in their designated roles and have the expertise to continue to discharge their duties and responsibilities passionately and diligently”.

While wishing them continued success in their roles, the lawmaker, however  urged Nigerians to sustain their support for the Buhari -led next level  administration.

Mr Kyari, until his appointment on Thursday, was the Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division (COMD) of the corporation, and also doubled as Nigeria’s National Representative to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC since 13th May 2018.

A geologist by profession, Mr Kyari who hails from Borno state, succeeds the incumbent GMD, Maikanti Baru, who is due for retirement from the NNPC next month.

He is the 19th GMD of the National Oil Company and boasts of a profile of professional and service credentials

A crude oil marketer with prerequisite certification and outfield pedigree in Petroleum Economics and crude oil and gas trading, Mr Kyari has in the last 27 years, traversed the entire value chain of the Petroleum Industry.

Mr Kyari holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Geology and Earth Science from the University of Maiduguri in 1987.

He did his National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) with the Directorate of Foods, Roads and Rural Infrastructure (DFRRI) between 1987 and 1988.

Mr Kyari worked with the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency between 1988 and 1991, before joining the NNPC subsidiary, Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL), where he worked as a Seismic Data Processing Geophysicist in the Data Processing Department.
