Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party.

In a resignation letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in Ampang West Ward, Mangu Local Government Area, the governor announced his decision to leave the party with immediate effect.

The development ends his long-standing association with the party on whose platform he was elected into office.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect,” Mutfwang stated in the letter.
He expressed appreciation to the party and its leadership at all levels for the support he received during his time in the PDP, noting that the party played a significant role in his political journey.

“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process. I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust in me,” he said.

Explaining his decision, the governor cited what he described as the “realities of the moment,” stressing his commitment to effective governance and service to the people of the state.

“Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform,” the letter read.

The resignation letter was officially received on December 30, 2025, by the Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Mr Dasjak Sunday, confirming the governor’s exit from the party.

Mutfwang concluded the letter by extending his regards to the party leadership, saying, “Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

However, the governor has yet to announce the political party he intends to join.

The Committee also said that the Speaker had fulfilled his promise to opposition parties in terms of committee positions.

Yusuf Gaji, a member of the Committee, who briefed newsmen said there was no rancour between Hon. Jibrin and the Speaker.

He said: “As regards to insinuations going on that Mr Speaker has failed to keep up to his promises to other political parties before election, of giving them 60 slots, I don’t think it is true.

“Some people will want to capitalise on the announcement made by Mr Speaker to take advantage of their own intentions.

“Mr Speaker has given 21 committees to the Peoples Democratic Party members, four other committees to other minority parties and 30 deputy chairmen of committees.

“If Mr Speaker has promised to allocate 60 positions to minority parties in the National Assembly, and he gave 21 and 30, making 51; plus four of APGA, AA and ADC, it means he has given 58. Fifty-eight and 60, they are almost the same.”

He added, “Regarding the Director-General of his Campaign, Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin, there is nothing between Hon Jibrin and Mr Speaker.

“They are working together, perhaps Mr Jibrin is going to be considered for something bigger than a committee in the National Assembly.

“So, these are the information that we felt are necessary for us to give the press so that they will go a long way in reducing the media criticisms against the actions by Mr Speaker.”

Fani-Kayode stated this while reacting to a statement by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, in which he described Peter Obi, the running mate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar as a “religious bigot.”

El-Rufai recalled that Obi supported his (El-Rufai’s) arrest by the Department of State Services, DSS in 2014 on the ground that “El-Rufai has no business being in Anambra State as it is not Katsina State.”

Reacting to El-Rufai’s statement, Fani-Kayode insisted that those left in the ruling party have ‘no brain as it has been replaced with ‘Cow Dung’

In a letter dated August 3, 2018, and addressed to the APC national chairman, the group said it had noted with deep concern the broad chorus of disapproval and complete despondency amongst different strata of members of the APC in Akwa Ibom state over the defection of Akpabio to the party.

The letter endorsed by Innocent Sylvanus, Chairman and Ubong Victor, Secretary, read in part: “Our group is an integrity watch team whose support for the APC is driven by the party’s change agenda, the fight against corruption as well as the near immaculate personality of the leader of the Party, President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We metamorphosed from Ibom Transparency Watch under the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), working assiduously in the last seven years to entrench in the party sterling values, such as integrity, justice, accountability and transparency, which are lacking in our political system.

“Hence, we have been on the watch so that such persons with tendencies which violate these values are not found tip-toeing around our party.

“For this reason, we feel sad, so are most members of the APC in Akwa Ibom State who looked up to our party as institution that will evict moral pervers as Senator Godswill Akpabio from position of authority, by the admission of Senator Godswill Akpabio into our party.

“Senator Akpabio who is now seeking asylum in the APC called our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, very unprintable names during the 2015 electioneering.

“He ordered the immediate closure of the Ibom Airport on the day Buhari, who was then the presidential flag – bearer of our party visited Akwa Ibom State.

“After our President won the 2015 election despite all their antics, Akpabio encouraged former President Goodluck Jonathan to challenge Buhari’s election victory in court.”

The group also informed Oshiomhole that Akpabio polarised ethnicity to its zenith in his bid to annihilate the Ibibio majority, and destroy the Oro ethnic nationality, when he was governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Emmanuel, who confirmed the mishap in a statement, said that 19 persons were rescued alive by the agency, while one of the passengers on board the boat was unfortunately lost.

The passenger boat identified as SEALINK was said to be travelling from Ikorodu to CMS when the incident occurred at about 9:30 am in Oworonshoki after hitting a submerged object.

While confirming the incident, Emmanuel said the 19 persons rescued have already been taken to Ebute Ero Jetty from where they were transferred to the hospital, while further investigations on the cause of the accident were still ongoing.

He said: “A passenger boat named SEALINK with 20 passengers and two crew onboard coming from Ikorodu to CMS ran over a submerged wooden boat close to Third Mainland Bridge. 19 passengers were carried to safety to Ebute Ero Jetty.

“The LASWA emergency response team recovered a female body (identified as a police officer attached to Zone Two police station) and handed over the corpse to the Marine Police. Her husband is an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

“The submerged SEALINK Boat has been salvaged and towed to a secure location off the waterways. Salvaging Operations is also taking place to get the submerged wooden boat off the navigable channel,” the LASWA boss said.

While commiserating with the family of the deceased, Emmanuel assured that the State Government would not relent in coming up with policies and programmes aimed at ensuring safety on the waterways.
