Welcoming the guests at a ceremony held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, the Project Coordinator and leader of the Supporters’ Club, Mr Femi Oyeniyi disclosed that the unveiling of the Goodwill Ambassadors was the first part of plans to reposition 3SC.

His statement reads, “Unveiling our Goodwill Ambassadors is the very first step. Our focus is to raise N500 million for the club. We believe this is exactly possible if we all forge a common front. The government alone cannot continue to fund the club. We want the club to meet world standards. 3SC is a team that has a traditional big name in Africa. We must work hard to ensure that it lives up to its billings”.

Also, in his goodwill message, renowned socialite, Mr Semiu Adenekan popularly addressed by his fans as DJ Semight urged all concerned to join hands to reposition 3SC.

While delivering his message, the fuji star, Taiye Adebisi Currency pledged to give his best to contribute to the growth of the team.

“I believe in what 3SC stands for. The club is one of those things we use to boast as indigenes of Ibadanland. I am going to pull all the strings I can to make sure I make an impact. I implore us all to continue to pray for both the players and management so that the team can return to the elite division.”

Remarking, the former Chief Press Secretary to late Governor Lam Adesina, Olayinka Agboola thanked those who made the event possible, especially those who came up with all the concepts and programmes that will return 3SC to the expected pedestal in the comity of viable sporting clubs.

“When I was first approached by Mr Steve Akadiri on the issue of becoming an Ambassador, I must confess, I never took him serious. However, he was, eventually able to convince me that the task is worth taking up.

“Those who know me and what I do know that I am sincerely interested in 3SC’s welfare, especially the politics and the political ‘wiremesh’ around it.

“In the past 14 years as publishers of PMParrot and Parrot Xtra Magazine, we have continued to do our best for the uplift of the football club”, the veteran journalist explained.

He, however urged the owner government, under the leadership of Governor Abiola Ajimobi to do all it can to seriously set in motion how to return the club to its former position as a pacesetter on the football scene in Nigeria and indeed Africa.

He averred that, by doing this, the government will be helping to uphold the heritage which 3SC stands for.

Agboola added, “by extension, I wish to call on all colleagues in the media profession, our radio stations, television stations and online platforms to work with us so that we can build the right kind of followership for the team. If we do this, the followers will in turn help the club.

“ I implore industry big guns and the corporate world in this part of the country to also join the project of lifting up 3SC. Together, the dream of taking the team to the greatest heights will be achieved”.

IT was a gathering of old, young and budding football stars on Saturday afternoon when Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC football academy was inaugurated inside the main bowl of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

About 200 prospective students and their enthusiastic parents were in attendance to witness the august gathering which also attracted all other stakeholders.

In his address of welcome, the club’s Executive Chairman, Gbolagade Busari said the young players should count themselves lucky for stepping into one of the legendary club sides in Africa.

He added that with a dint of hard work and discipline, the world would soon celebrate them as prominent footballers.

“You are going to be fulcrum of Shooting Stars. You are going to be the prayers we are looking for in the future to wear the jerseys of the club. And from there, it will be a platform to be known all over the world while the sky would be the limit”, Busari concludes.

The head coach, Edith Agoye while explaining the rudiments of the academy project, said its programme would be fashioned after an England Academy model of physical corner, technical corner, tactical corner and social corner especially for the U-13 & U-15 categories as basics for their learning process.

He therefore, urged the parents to compliment the efforts of the coaches in moulding these youngster to stardom.

For the club’s legendary players and coaches like Niyi Akande, Felix Owolabi and Mutiu Adepoju, they advised these youngsters to make hard work and discipline their watch words while they commended the management for the initiative which they believed is long overdue!

In his own speech, the commissioner for youth & sports, Mr Abayomi Oke explained that establishment of the football academy is a way of creating a proper vision of culture, character and discipline for the club by nurturing home grown stars as it operates in other climes especially Europe.

He added that the academy is self sustaining hence all stake holders should work for its survival even after that the current management .

Oke further disclosed that this official inauguration notwithstanding, the management would still pay adequate attention to further screening of the students to avoid any form of age cheats an other inadequacies.

In their reactions after collecting their notification letters, some of the parents lauded the management on the event and the proper take off of the football academy with assurance that they would not be found wanting in their efforts at supporting the project.

However, the general manager of the club, Mr Rashidi Balogun appreciates the parents for bringing their children into Shooting Stars family with a promise that all the students will be giving a conducive atmosphere to excel.

Meanwhile, the training session will commence on Tuesday morning, 17th April, 2018 for the categories in U-13, U-15, U-17 & U-19

Other stakeholders at the event were SA to the government on youth & sports, Hon Bolaji Afeez Repete, Professors, EmiOlohun Ayelari, Akinola Alada, Remi Raji-Oyelade, Dr Isiaq Salami, (all from University of Ibadan, general manager, OYSSC, Gboyega Makinde, Oyo FA Secretary, Kehinde Ojelowo, Coach Idowu Oloyede and Chairman Ibadan City Polytechnic, Mr Amos Ajanaku among other.

From all corners of the country (some even from neighbouring countries) came different players with the intention of donning the colours of the club but only few were successful this morning at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, after the final screening witnessed by scores of coaches, fans, supporters and other stakeholders.

Reacting shortly  after the exercise, the club’s General Manager, Mr Rashidi Balogun expresses satisfaction with the quality of players who made the list and the process through which they emerged. ” I am very satisfied about those who survived the trials. They are mature and everyone can see it openly. We have never fell short of expectations and very soon the world shall see our new star players”, he concludes.

Also remarking, the Head Coach, Edith Agoye said the first phase has been very successful with the discovery of promising players from even the top teams in the NPFL.

“It has been a very good one. Our target was to look for best players, raw talents and we have got some good ones. We think they would go forward and do something important for Shooting Stars in the nearest future. We also have players from top teams in the NPFL, added.

On the next phase, Agoye said the club would start playing some top friendlies in other to bring out the best in those selected. However, he is not ruling out the possibility of adding to the numbers if they can still get more quality players in the course of the second phase preparations.

The statement by the club’s team manager, Dimeji Lawal on Monday indicates that few successful players out of over 500 prospects who turned up for trials will be picked after the final training in the morning.

He further reveals that the new picks would then join the old players to begin the second phase of preparations next Monday for the new football season at the Professional League category, NNL.

It would be recalled that Shooting Stars resumed on 3rd November after a four week break from the Nigerian Premier Football League, NPFL.
