Kogi State, Nigeria – In a devastating turn of events, two lives were lost, and more than 70 houses were set ablaze during a communal clash between Oturpo-Ojile and Ochi-Ibadan communities in the Ankpa Local Government Area.

The conflict ignited when villagers in Ochi-Ibadan allegedly took the life of a man from Oturpo-Ojile, who was returning from Lagos to his hometown.

Fueled by grief over the death of their fellow villager, enraged youths from Oturpo-Ojile launched a reprisal attack on Ochi-Ibadan. The aftermath witnessed the alleged burning down of numerous houses and properties, amounting to millions of naira.

During Thursday’s plenary at the Kogi State House of Assembly, Akus Lawal, the representative of Ankpa I state Constituency, confirmed the incident, shedding light on the grim situation.

Lawal reported that the state Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, had visited both communities, assuring that normalcy has been restored.
