Elder Aragbaye died at about 2:30pm on Wednesday, aged 77, at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

During his lifetime, he worked at the Nigerian Tribune as a journalist under the supervision of ex-Governor of Lagos State Lateef Jakande, after which he left in 1967 to join The Sketch Press Limited, where he rose to become Editor.

He was appointed Chief Press Secretary to the late Chief Adekunle Ajasin, a former Governor of Ondo State, in 1981.

He clocked 77 on November 10, 2018, and is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and other family members.

Describing the attack on his wife as “sexual battery,” Oludayo made this known when he testified in the petition brought by his wife seeking dissolution of their seven-year marriage for alleged brutality and lack of care.

He told the court that his wife fell into the hands of fraudsters while shopping for love charms from Alfas, but she was “sexually battered” in the process.

The father of two accused his wife of infidelity and lack of respect for him as her husband.

He told the court that his wife never obeyed his instructions, saying her curiosity for miracles led her to fall into the hands of some fraudsters that took sexual advantage of her.

“My lord, she didn’t recognise me as her husband because she lives a carefree life.

“Her search for love charms from some fraudsters that pretended to be Muslims clerics made her to fall prey and she was gang-raped.

”Though she opened up to me and pleaded for forgiveness, her attitude didn’t change after the shameful experience,” he said

The respondent denied the allegation of brutality and that he tried his best in performing his responsibility as a husband and father of the two children of the union.

He alleged that his mother-in-law pushed his wife to divorce him, saying his in-laws hate him.

He, however, pleaded with the court to resolve the issue instead of dissolving the marriage, saying he still loves his wife despite what she did.

Earlier, Jumoke had told the court that her husband turned her into a punching bag and always threatened her life.

She described her seven-year marriage with the respondent as a “calamity,” saying she was tired of constant beating.

She further said that Oludayo never cared for the upkeep of their two children, and that he didn’t treat her with love.

She, however, was silent on the allegation of being “sexually assaulted,” and gang raped, but insisted that the court should dissolve their marriage.

Jumoke threatened to kill herself if the court fails to grant her request.

The president of the court, Mukaila Balogun, said that evidence of both parties, especially that of the petitioner, had proved that there was no more love between them.

Balogun noted that the rampant cases of domestic violence, which had led to wives killing husbands and husbands killing their wives were enough to uphold the request of the petitioner.

“Though, the court prioritizes resolution of marriage disputes, it is handicapped in some instances.

“The marriage is therefore dissolved and custody of the two kids is given to the petitioner.

“The respondent is ordered to pay N7,000 monthly for the upkeep of the children and should be responsible for the education of the children.”

The court’s President, Chief Mukaila Balogun, dissolved the union and awarded the custody of their only child Alimot.

Balogun ordered Azeez to pay N3, 500 as monthly allowance for the maintenance of the child and warned both parties against fomenting trouble.

Earlier, Alimot had told the court that the respondent had always accused her of sleeping with “anything in trousers”.

“He is a jealous man; I dare not greet other men because of his suspicion about my movement.

“My husband always accused me of infidelity because he felt he was too old to satisfy me sexually, but I was okay with the way he performed on bed,” she said.

Alimot described her estranged husband, a retired solder, as stubborn, who did not give her rest of mind.

The respondent, Azeez, however, agreed to the dissolution of the marriage, saying “she does not listens to instructions.”

“I warned her several times to stop her bad behaviours but she refused.

“My Lord, she used to go to the market in the morning and return in the evening, she packed out willingly on Dec.31, 2016 and did not return till date.’’

Azeez urged the court to grant him custody of their child, saying “ my child is my only hope because I have no other child in life.”

“One morning Ifeoluwa who is just 12 years old told me that Sunday came at night to insert his finger into her vagina and I immediately rebuked her and told her to shut her mouth”, Nation quoted her.

“But the eldest, Emmanuel said he disguised as Ifeoluwa and slept at the same position she normally sleeps and also used her cover cloth to cover his body.

“When Sunday came as usual and attempted to insert his finger then discovered the person under the cloth is a boy he left hurriedly.

“One night I also caught him myself; my husband was completely naked and attempted to have sex with one of the female children.

“He knelt down and was begging me that night that I should not let people outside know what transpired. He even said he didn’t know what came over him.

“People have been saying it that he harassed females during the night vigils in church. This man you are looking likes sex so much. I even attempted to marry more four wives for him which he turned down.

“He also smokes. There was a day he gave Emmanuel Indian hemp to smoke; he even wrapped Indian hemp in the presence of my twins and take local gins. Each time I challenged him he do say he is taking it because of the cold weather.”

President of the court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, after listening to both parties, adjourned the matter to 31st of August for judgment.
