The award was presented by Bollyjoe Media Communications Ltd, a media and communications firm based  in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Wednesday.

Presenting the award, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Joseph Uzuakpundu Bollyjoe, said Abdul-Hameed was recognised for his selfless service and transformative leadership within Nigeria’s polytechnic education system.

He noted that under the Rector’s stewardship, the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, had witnessed strategic reforms aimed at strengthening academic standards and promoting institutional stability.

‎According to him, the Rector’s policies have repositioned the institution for sustainable growth and aligned its technical education programmes with global best practices.

Since assuming office, the Rector has prioritised infrastructural development, administrative discipline and innovation-driven governance, earning commendations from stakeholders.

‎Reacting to the honour, Abdul-Hameed, described the award as a motivation to further deepen reforms and consolidate on existing achievements.

‎“This recognition is not just personal; it reflects the dedication of our management, staff and students who share the vision of building a globally competitive institution,” the Rector  said.

He added that the polytechnic would remain committed to excellence, integrity and continuous development in line with national educational aspirations.

The handover ceremony, held at the Sir Ademola Dare-Williams Hall, O’First Group Centre, Oke Osuuru, Ogbomoso, also featured the signing of a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the initiative and FEDPA’s Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, formalising the use of the facility for technical and vocational training.

Speaking at the event, the President of O’First Group, Arch. Sakiru Suara, emphasised the need for practical skills in today’s economy. He said, “Education without practical skills is no longer sufficient. I urge trainees to complement their academic qualifications with vocational skills to create multiple sources of income.” Suara also credited the polytechnic’s Rector, Dr. Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, for ensuring that graduates acquire at least one practical skill before leaving the institution.

Reflecting on his personal journey, Suara recounted how his father’s work as a bricklayer shaped his own career, stressing the importance of vocational skills in personal and community development.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ogbomoso First Community Initiative, Otunba Bayo Babatunde, highlighted the group’s commitment to local development since its founding in 2009, citing initiatives such as distributing thousands of exercise books to students and empowering residents with vocational tools, including sewing machines and motorcycles.

Dr. Abdul-Hameed lauded the contributions of Ogbomoso indigenes, describing Suara as “a pillar of the polytechnic who facilitated its early take-off by providing the administrative building at the Iresa-Apa campus.” He further disclosed that the institution would soon benefit from another project facilitated by Prof. Jide Ajao, an indigene and council representative.

The Director of the Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, Mr. Christopher Owojori, represented by Mrs. Bulala Kafayat, said the programme targets mainly indigenes of Ogbomoso and environs under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training initiative.

She explained, “Each trainee will receive a monthly stipend, and the centre is funded to run the six-month programme successfully.”

A retired Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dejo Oyelowo, added that the two best-performing trainees would receive additional equipment to strengthen their entrepreneurial ventures.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included CP Dejo Oyelowo, Engr. Akinloye Oyekola, Chief Bayo Eegunbiyi, Prof. Jide Ajao, Deputy Rector (Academic) Dr. Azeez Olasunkanmi Ojo, Deputy Registrar Mr. Gafar Kolapo Olatinwo, the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Samuel Oke Ogunniyi, deans, directors, staff, and students.

The Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State, on Thursday, appealed to the Federal Government and Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for urgent intervention over the poor access roads preventing the relocation of the institution to its permanent site.

The council said despite the completion of major facilities at the permanent location, students and staff are unable to access them due to deplorable road conditions.

Chairman of the Governing Council, Hon. Yakubu Dati, made the call during an inspection visit to the institution’s Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (CSAED) in Onipaanu, Surulere Local Government Area. He noted that the lack of motorable roads from Idi Araba, Oolo and Odo-Oba axes remains a critical obstacle to the school’s movement to the permanent site in Ayede, Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area.

“We are appealing to the Federal Government, and we, as council members, will also use our networks and contacts to reach out to relevant stakeholders to assist with construction of roads to the permanent site,” Dati said. “We have been there and we are quite impressed with the facilities provided there.”

Dati, a three-term commissioner, former Special Assistant on Media and Political Affairs to the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, and Council Chief in Plateau State, disclosed that 13 key projects have been completed at the permanent site, including an administrative block, urban and regional planning complex, library, medical centre, and gatehouse, among others. However, he lamented that the institution cannot fully utilise the investments without immediate road intervention.

He also acknowledged the support of the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, who visited the permanent site and promised to champion efforts to attract development to the area.

“We are also happy that the Soun visited the place and has promised to push the case so that we open up the place. Moving our academic activities to Ayede will really bring development to the axis,” he added.

The Rector of the institution, Dr. Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, assured the host community that the institution was determined to move to the permanent site despite the challenges.

“The Ayede community should not entertain any fear whatsoever. We are determined. This crop of management team, led by my humble self, is working assiduously to ensure that all barriers are surmounted,” he said.

Abdul-Hameed expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of Education, and heads of agencies like NBTE and TETFund for their support. He also commended his management team, students and staff for their commitment to the school’s vision.

“Our students have shown maximum cooperation because we are giving them proper guidance. We are producing graduates who are not job seekers but employers of labour.”

Speaking during the tour, the Ministry of Education’s representative, Mrs. Chinyere Nwokorie, commended the school’s innovation drive, describing it as “the best among its peers.” Other council members including Dr. Abraham Okunade, Alhaji Aminu Sokoto and Alhaji Goba Minter, also praised the progress made by the young institution, especially in entrepreneurship development.

Director of CSAED, Mr. Oluwaseun Owojori, said the centre currently offers NBTE-approved programmes in electrical installation, plumbing and interior decoration, with plans to introduce garment making and social media communication.

“At Fed Poly Ayede, students are not just educated, they are skilled before graduation,” he said.

The event ended with a presentation of student-made products—including leather shoes, soaps and disinfectants—to the Governing Council.

The Rector also lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing progress under his “Renewed Hope Agenda,” highlighting the significant improvements across various sectors, including education.

“The education sector, like many other areas of our economy, has seen remarkable progress through government policies under President Tinubu’s administration. These developments are contributing to the growth of our institutions and the nation as a whole,” he added.

The don further emphasised that workers play a crucial role in the operation of any nation or government institution, describing them as “the oil that lubricates the smooth running of the system.”

Regarding staff welfare, Dr. Abdul-Hameed assured that the Polytechnic’s management is committed to providing better welfare packages, as well as comprehensive training and retraining programmes aimed at enhancing staff knowledge and experience.

“May Day is a time to honor the invaluable contributions of workers in all sectors. Today, let us reflect on how far we’ve come and renew our commitment to excellence, teamwork, and continuous development,” the Rector remarked.

He also urged the staff to stay focused and committed to their roles, recognising their importance as key stakeholders in the Polytechnic’s growth.

“The success of our Polytechnic would not have been possible without the contributions of our dedicated staff. On behalf of the Governing Council Chairman, Hon.  Yakubu Dati, the Council members, Principal Officers, Management, and students, I celebrate our workers on this significant occasion,” Dr. Abdul-Hameed said.

The Rector congratulated President Tinubu and other stakeholders, including the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa; Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad; Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, Prof. Idris Bugaje; Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Arc. Sonny Echono; and the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for their unflinching support under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“I commend your collective efforts towards ensuring a brighter future for the education sector in Nigeria,” he concluded.
