Buhari, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Land Transport, is representing Oyo North Senatorial district.

The unanimous judgement of the panel, read by Justice Anthony Akpovi (Chairman) on the petition, marked EPT/OY/SEN/09/2019, said the petitioners Mulikat Adeola-Akande and the party that presented her for the National Assembly poll- the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), failed to prove their petition beyond reasonable doubt.

The panel, comprising of  Justice Anthony Akpovi (Chairman) and Justice Chinyere Ani, also awarded a cost of N150,000 against the petitioners, and refused to grant the request of the petitioners for damages.

Buhari, who served as chairman Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercrime in the 8th National Assembly, won the election with over 18,338 votes to defeat Adeola-Akande as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Reacting to the judgement  , Senator Buhari thanked  Almighty Allah for the electoral and tribunal victories which further affirmed his acceptance by the electorates in the senatorial district .

He also thanked his party – the All Progressives Congress (APC), his legal team led by Lateef Fagbemi SAN , and constituents for their support and prayers.

The APC Chieftain  maintained that the victory is a pointer to the fact that the judiciary still remains the hope of the masses.

The lawmaker, however assured his constituents that he will not relent in his effort to accelerate the development of the district and the constituents through qualitative representation.

No fewer than 3,599 out of the 3,997 delegates that participated in the primary election affirmed his nomination at the party Senatorial primary held in Iseyin.

The event which was conducted by representatives of the National body of the party, comprises of Barrister Ejiro Etaghene, Dr Hassim Adda and Sarah Egye Amiyawa was also supervised by security agencies and members of staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC)

The affirmation which started around 10pm lasted few hours with all the delegates making voice affirmation and declaring total support for Senator Buhari’s return to the senate.

Dr Hassim Adda who conducted the exercise commended the delegates for their patience and understanding, urging them not to relent in their effort in ensuring that APC wins subsequent elections in the state

He maintained that the party is poised to strengthen democracy and make life better for all and sundry in the country through provision of basic amenities, infrastructural development and creating enabling environment for promotion of commerce and industry

In his acceptance speech, Senator Buhari thanked the party leaders and members for reposing confidence in him with their votes.

” In 2014, we did the same exercise here and you supported me, and prayed for me to succeed, together we have been able to achieve what we are able to do so far in the area of empowerment, infrastructural development and legislative duties.

“Today you have demonstrated another level of courage and believe in me to to further represent you at the upper chamber of the National Assembly and I want to assure you that you will not regret it because i wont betray the confidence you reposed in me.

“I will continue to work to enhance the progress of my constituents and constituency in accordance with the party manifesto to promote the integrity and ideology of APC”, he added.

The Senatorial Chairman, Alhaji Radaq Arikewuyo in his remark said ” The choice of Senator Buhari is buoyed by his outstanding performance as a lawmaker, his achievements are unprecedented and monumental and we want him to continue the good work, we are proud of him and as a disciplined party that cherish service to humanity and great performances, we agreed that he should return to the senate unopposed and that is why you can see the large turn out today

“This is the first time such thing is happening in the whole of Oyo state and we consider it a rare privilege  because its a kind of honour and reward for Senator Buhari and we want to thank Senatot Ajimobi, the Executive Governor of Oyo state, party leaders and other stakeholders for their supports”, he said.

Also, a chieftain of the party in Oke Ogun, Chief Ezekiel Olaogun expressed optimism that Senator Buhari’s second term will be far better than his first term.

According to Olaogun, “he is an achiever, and a core progressive, he would perform better and facilitate more development to the constituency this time around ”

Party stalwart at the event include, Hon Isaac Ajiboye Omodewu, State Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Survey, Hon. Dauda Oladimeji, State Commissioner for Works and Transport,  Hon Isaac Ishola, State Commissioner for Environment, Senatorial Youth and Women leaders, Council Chairmen and Councilors, Party Executives among others.

In a time like this, both pretenders and serious contenders will be moving round to convince people , pasting posters and seeking for people’s support, but one thing that is certain is that only one person will emerge and I wish the  next governor is Distinguished Senator Abdulfatai Omotayo Buhari

My choice of Fatai  Buhari as a preferred candidate and the most competent man to succeed Ajimobi is buoyed by the fact that he has demonstrated his genuine passion in serving the people. He has been tested and trusted and it won’t be out of place to entrust him with the number one position in the state because he will do well.

Apart from adequate representation and contributions on the floor of the  house as a member of the the National Assembly, Buhari while at the lower chamber of the National Assembly  set an unprecedented record of achievements in Nigeria politics through some of his activities which include: donation of cars for commercial purposes to 47 members of his constituency and organizations, payment of  WAEC for students in all secondary schools in Ogbomoso South and Oriire Federal constituency, provision of loan facilities for petty traders and business women,  donation of educational supports for  students and Bursary award to students in tertiary institution, secure Federal Job for many members of his constituency and many others.

His tenure at the ministry of  Water Resources where he served as Special Adviser to the Governor and Ministry of Local  Government and Chieftaincy matter where he served as a commissioner also witnessed some level of improvement. As a commissioner, he  ensure that payment of primary school teacher’s salary did not exceed 26th of every month, he made it possible  by arranging with banks to release the fund for payment of salary as and when due and retrieve it as soon as the allocation from the Federal Government is  released for the state. Many council chairmen, politicians and even technocrats will not forget  his contribution  to their success stories through prompt response to their demands and support for their council .

Fatai Buhari score card at the Senate in the last three years is another fantastic attestation to his credibility as a politicians who is passionate about his people and the growth of Nigeria at large. He is one of the 10 Senators with the highest numbers of motions and bills, his intellectual contributions to issues at the plenary are always apt and given adequate consideration. For instance, the motion on public debate for president,  and governors will go a long way in reshaping the political development of Nigeria.

Another significant bill which is ongoing is that of Establishment of University of Agricultural Technology in Oke Ogun. The bill if sail through will hasten the development of the region and make Oyo state another food basket of the nation. He is also working on making   Ikere Gorge dam to function to his capacity, rehabilitation of  Oyo-Iseyin road, Okeho- Iseyin road and many others.

His two major empowerment programs are not only the best in term of numbers of items distributed but they were empowerment programs with the largest number of beneficiaries in the history of Nigeria. No fewer than 2,000 people benefited at each program; this asides the one he has been doing without making noise.

For instance , in November, the lawmaker paid WAEC Fees of about 6,000 pupils of secondary schools in his constituency, and also donated mini bus for  Federation of Oyo State Student Union and  built ICT centres in schools across the 13 local governments in Ogbomoso and Oke Ogun. He has facilitated trainings, skill acquisitions and financed over 3,000 artisans and school leavers and job seekers.

The lawmaker is humble and highly principled, he doesn’t underrates anybody. He is a man loved by the people and  his humility and kindness was attested to by many traditional rulers, civil servants and many others. Governor Abiola Ajimobi, last month in Iseyin during the empowerment program held at NYSC camp said, “since I have been meeting people as a governor, I have never seen a humble man like Fatai Buhari, he is humble and hardworking”. The governor said further “it will not be out of place to say Senator Buhari is the best Senator Oyo state ever produced,  I was once a senator too and  I never did something like this while at the Senate “.

Ajimobi’s statement is an automatic endorsement for Senator Buhari gubernatorial ambition,  APC chairman, Chief Akin Oke and other stakeholders who spoke at the program also joined Ajimobi in eulogizing and commending the efforts of Senator Buhari in alleviating the suffering of the masses and contributing to the  development of the state, all these statements testify to the claim that the Ogbomoso born Senator is a competent person who will not betray the confidence reposed in him by the  electorate .

During his visit to the APC secretariat in November 2017 to declare his intention, he was  commended by the party echelon for his support for the party.

“Apart from his regular donations for the party he is also responsive to any request from us . It shows he is a party man  and the party is enjoying him and I believe will enjoy him  better if given the opportunity to serve in a higher position”, said  one of the party chiefs in his comment .

Apart from his wealth of experience and entrepreneur background, the Senator is highly connected at the National level and he has a blueprint for the development of Oyo state. Part of his agenda include: qualitative  education, good health care delivery, infrastructural development, youth empowerment, job creations, and many others.

I want to concluded by urging the people of Oyo state to always consider Senator Buhari as the next governor of the state/ He is  a selfless leader, a defender of the masses who has demonstrated his genuine intention  to move the state forward and  an highly connected politician who will use his  contacts and links both within and outside Nigeria to develop human capacity, hasten infrastructural development and promote unity and progress in Oyo state .

The Senator also revealed that the country loses about #127 billion annually to cybercrime, while the figure represents 0.8% of the country’s GDP.

Buhari in a lecture delivered at the Lead City University Faculty of Law  lecture  recently in Ibadan entitled ‘Legislative Commitment and Cybercrime’ maintained that the figure will continue to grow unless the National Assembly act fast and intensifies its efforts in preventing this unwholesome act.

In his words,  “Nigeria has been ranked third in global internet crimes coming after United States of America and United Kingdom respectively. In the year 2015, the Information Security Society of Nigeria (ISSAN) revealed that 25% of the cybercrimes in Nigeria are unresolved and that 7.5% of the world’s hackers are Nigerians”.

“In 2014 alone, EFCC reported that customers in Nigeria lost about 6 billion naira to cyber criminals, while NDIC (2015) showed a 183% increase on the e-payment platform in Nigerian banks”.

He continued, “In a similar development, the CBN (2015) report showed that 70% of attempted or successful fraud/forgery cases in Nigeria banking system were perpetrated via the electronic channels. Banks in Nigeria have lost approximately #159 billion to electronic frauds and cybercrime between 2000 and 2013 and the impact on the nation’s economy and cash less policy is significant”.

The lawmaker further observed that the absence of enabling laws and appropriate law to guarantee the legality of online transactions, continue to create fear in the mind of users and potential online users.

Scanning the legislative commitment of the National Assembly in the past, the former commissioner who is currently  representing Oyo North Senatorial District said “the commitment of National Assembly of Nigeria in the past can be said to have not been fruitful and successful. Until 2015, there were over 100 IT related bills before the Nigeria Legislature – the National Assembly, none of which was passed into law”,

He, then attributes the creation of standing committee on Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Cybercrime by the Senate as part of commitment by the 8th Assembly towards curbing cybercrime in the country.

Similarly, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseeni in his lecture on ‘Kidnapping’ averred that crime cannot be totally eradicated in the society, demanding from the public to always support the government in its bid to ensure safety.

“Security is the most expensive thing to do in a country but we can also help by saying positive things about our country, saying negative things about the country demoralize the courage and attitude of those who want to fight crimes in the society”, he counselled .

Senator Buhari who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Cybercrime is the Guest Speaker while the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni is expected as the Special Guest of Honour at the 2017 Edition of Lead City University Faculty of Law week.

Briefing journalists in Ibadan, the Faculty of Law Student Association’s Public Relation Officer, Comrade Wale Ojo Lanre , disclosed that the program is schedule to commence by 2 pm at the International Conference Centre, Lead City University, Ibadan.

He also hinted  further  that Executives and Members of Professional Associations including Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) , Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) , Heads of Security Operatives and other related agencies are expected  at the event.

Other programs bill for the law week include: Culture day, Dinner and Paper presentation, quiz and debate as well as inter departmental sports competition.
