The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has delisted 23 Computer-Based Test centres nationwide following technical deficiencies recorded during the 2026 mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The Board disclosed this in a bulletin issued on Friday and signed by its Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, as preparations intensify for the 2026 UTME scheduled to hold across the country from April 16 to April 25.
According to JAMB, the mock examination was designed to assess operational readiness and identify centres that failed to meet the required technical standards.

“Following the conduct of the 2026 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, the Board has delisted 23 Computer-Based Test centres for technical deficiencies,” the statement read.
The Board added that several centres with minor issues had been placed on notice, warning that continued non-compliance could lead to further sanctions. It also stated that one centre would no longer be used for any of its examinations.

JAMB disclosed that a total of 2,243,816 candidates registered for the 2026 UTME, with Lagos recording 321,814 candidates, Kaduna 303,498, the Federal Capital Territory 302,963, and Ogun 137,156.

To improve accessibility and logistics, the Board said it increased the number of approved examination centres to 1,000 nationwide, up from fewer than 800 in 2025.

However, an internal review conducted after the mock exercise revealed that some centres failed to meet operational and technical benchmarks, prompting their removal from the approved list.

The delisting followed reports of widespread technical glitches during the mock examination, including network failures, system malfunctions and delayed commencement of tests in several locations. Some candidates and parents also complained about hours-long waiting periods at affected centres.

The affected centres are located in Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Oyo and Plateau states.

Among the delisted centres are Micben Seat of Wisdom Academy, Ukwa West, Abia; Bishop Crowther Seminary CBT Centre, Awka, and The Oracle Lens, Nnokwa, Anambra; Derby’s Young ICT Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa; Avid ICT Solutions CBT Centre, Asaba, Delta; and Daniet Global Resources CBT Centre, Benin City, Edo.
Others include De-Lite CBT Centre, Maitama, Abuja; Florin High School CBT Centre, Ejigbo; Folbob CBT Centre, Lakowe; Great Kezino College CBT Centre, Ikorodu; Obans CBT Centre, Ikorodu; and Teesas Learning and CBT Centre, Lekki, all in Lagos.

Also affected are Braingate Model Schools CBT Centre, Arepo, and Greenhills Academy CBT Centre, Itele, Ogun State; Oduduwa University CBT Centre, Ile-Ife, Osun State; Lasting Glory Schools CBT Centre, Ibadan; Nesam International School CBT Centre, Ibadan; SAF Polytechnic CBT Centre, Iseyin, Oyo State; and Rabjib Computer Academy, Jos, Plateau State.

JAMB stated that the decision formed part of efforts to safeguard the integrity of its examination process and ensure that only centres that meet its operational requirements are used for the main UTME.

The Board assured candidates that necessary measures had been put in place to ensure a smooth conduct of the examination nationwide.

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday described the Federal Polytechnic Ayede as the best-performing among federal polytechnics established in 2021, commending its infrastructural expansion and academic stability as the institution graduated 325 students at its maiden convocation ceremony.

Tinubu, who is the Visitor to the institution, was represented by the Director, Polytechnics and Allied Institutions, Dr. Usman Ejeh. He said the polytechnic’s achievements within five years were “remarkable and strategic,” adding that its growth aligns with the Federal Government’s reform agenda for technical and vocational education.

“The Federal Polytechnic Ayede has distinguished itself among its peers established in 2021. Its commitment to infrastructure, skills acquisition, and academic stability clearly positions it as a model institution,” he said.

The President noted that his administration had introduced key reforms, including the students’ loan scheme under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, curriculum modernisation, infrastructural renewal, and digital skills expansion to reposition the education sector.

“We are determined to build institutions that will produce innovators, entrepreneurs, and solution providers for our economy,” he added, urging the management to consolidate on existing gains.

Earlier, the Rector, Dr. Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, described the combined convocation for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions as a defining milestone in the institution’s history.

“We gather here today to officially present to the world the first set of graduates produced by the Federal Polytechnic Ayede. This indeed calls for celebration,” he said.

The rector expressed appreciation to Tinubu for policies aimed at strengthening technical education and acknowledged the support of regulatory and funding agencies, including the National Board for Technical Education and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, for accreditation and infrastructural interventions that accelerated the institution’s development.

He disclosed that 138 students graduated in the 2023/2024 session and 187 in the 2024/2025 session, bringing the total number of graduands to 325.

According to him, Miss Taiwo Ibukunoluwa Arinola of Science Laboratory Technology and Mr. Olapese Quadri Ayofe of Agricultural Technology emerged as the overall best graduating students for their respective sessions with a cumulative grade point average of 3.96.

Beyond the award of National Diploma certificates, Abdul-Hameed said each graduand obtained at least two additional vocational certifications through the Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development.

“Our graduates are not just job seekers but employers of labour. We have deliberately equipped them with relevant entrepreneurial and technical competencies,” he said, adding that 68 major projects had been executed across the temporary and permanent sites through TETFund interventions, Federal Government appropriations, and donor support.

The projects, he said, include a main administrative building, ICT centre, health centre, engineering workshops, and improved power infrastructure, while the institution also recorded over 64 research projects and nine TETFund-supported fabrication innovations. He also reaffirmed the polytechnic’s resolve to relocate fully to its permanent site in Ayede, Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area, and appealed for improved access roads and hostel accommodation.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Hon. Yakubu Dati, described the ceremony as a celebration of vision and collective commitment, urging government, corporate organisations, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the institution with critical infrastructure, particularly road networks and student hostels, through direct intervention or Public-Private Partnership arrangements. He commended the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, and the host community for sustaining a peaceful environment, and appreciated the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, who was also the guest lecturer, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, for supporting the construction of an access road to the institution.

Fellowship awards were conferred on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr Zacch Adedeji; and Dr Abubakar Isa.

The event attracted traditional rulers, including the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye; the Timi of Ede, Oba Adesola Munirudeen Lawal; and the Aresa of Iresapupa, Oba Moses Olayiwola Ajiboye, as well as Senators Ayo Adeseun, Abdulfatai Buhari, prominent Ogbomoso leaders, rectors of sister polytechnics, scholars, and other dignitaries.

The lawmaker representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has celebrated Nigerian teachers on the occasion of the 2025 World Teachers’ Day, describing them as nation builders and key drivers of societal transformation.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, the lawmaker commended teachers across the country for their dedication, resilience, and sacrifice in nurturing future leaders.

Oseni, who also serves as Chairman, House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), noted that teachers play a vital role in shaping human capacity, which remains the bedrock of national development. He said the contribution of teachers to the moral and intellectual growth of citizens cannot be quantified.

“Teachers remain the torchbearers of every progressive society. They plant the seeds of knowledge, nurture dreams, and build the human capacity that drives national development. No nation can grow beyond the quality of its teachers,” Oseni stated.

He recalled how the guidance and discipline of his teachers influenced his personal and professional growth, adding that their mentorship shaped his commitment to public service and community development. According to him, the teaching profession deserves greater recognition and reward for its unmatched contributions to nation-building.

The federal lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to improving education within his constituency and across Oyo State through infrastructural support, bursary awards, distribution of writing materials, scholarships, payment of WAEC and JAMB examination fees, as well as teacher empowerment initiatives. He explained that his ongoing constituency projects are aimed at strengthening learning environments and motivating educators to deliver their best.

Oseni also urged the federal and state governments to accord greater priority to teachers’ welfare by improving remuneration, providing modern teaching tools, and creating a more conducive learning atmosphere in public schools. “When we value our teachers, we secure our nation’s future,” he said.

While congratulating all teachers in Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency and across Nigeria, he urged them to remain steadfast and passionate in their noble calling. He described them as the unsung heroes of national progress whose labour, he said, will never be in vain.

The Federal Government on Monday said no fewer than 500,000 students across the country are currently benefitting from the National Education Loan Fund.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this at a world press conference in Abuja to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

“As we speak, more than 500,000 students of tertiary institutions, universities, polytechnics and colleges of education are already benefitting from NELFUND,” Idris said.

The minister explained that the scheme, which covers both tuition and upkeep fees, was unprecedented in the country’s history.

He said the initiative was part of President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at driving growth and stability.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a committed, courageous and visionary leader dismantling stubborn cogs in the wheel of our national progress,” Idris added.

According to him, the administration is making heavy investments in education, health, infrastructure, agriculture, energy and youth development to build the foundation for national renewal.

Tinubu had on April 3, 2024, signed the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act into law, paving the way for the creation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund. The scheme was formally launched on July 17, 2024.

The initiative, which is being managed by NELFUND, provides interest-free loans to eligible Nigerian students. It is designed to widen access to education and reduce the financial burden on young Nigerians.

Kano State has emerged as the best-performing state in the 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for internal candidates, marking a historic milestone for the state’s educational sector.

The Registrar of NECO, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

According to the released figures, Kano State led the country with 68,159 candidates—representing 5.02 per cent of the national total—who obtained five credits and above, including Mathematics and English Language. This feat placed the state at the top of the 2025 NECO SSCE performance index.

Wushishi added that a total of 1,358,339 candidates sat the June/July examination, with 818,492 candidates (60.26 per cent) securing five credits and above, including English and Mathematics. He further noted that 1,144,496 candidates, representing 84.26 per cent, recorded at least five credits in any subject combination.

Trailing Kano in the performance chart were Lagos and Oyo states. Lagos came second with 67,007 candidates, while Oyo placed third with 48,742 candidates.

Kano’s achievement comes against the backdrop of sweeping education reforms introduced by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.

Reacting to the development, Governor Yusuf, through his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described the results as “a reflection of the tireless work and vision” driving his government’s education policies.

“I am elated by this outstanding performance. It is a testament to the fact that when we prioritise education, invest in our teachers, and ensure access to quality learning, the results speak for themselves,” the governor said. “This success belongs to every teacher, student, and parent who has supported our reforms.”

Education experts have also lauded the state’s achievement. A Kano-based analyst, Dr. Amina Lawal, said: “Kano’s success in the NECO exams is a clear demonstration of the power of visionary leadership and sustained investment in education. The state has set a new benchmark for other regions to follow.”

Also affected is the school’s Senior Master, Malam Adamu Shehu, who was dismissed for colluding with the principal in the unauthorized sale of government property belonging to the school.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commission’s Information Officer, Dahiru Adamu.

According to the statement, the sold items include 32 scrapped student beds, nine jumbo aluminum pots, and an unspecified number of roofing zinc sheets.

The Commission stated that the disciplinary actions were taken following the findings of a four-man investigative committee, which concluded that the two officials were culpable.

“The action was approved following the submission of the report of the investigation committee constituted to look into the allegations. The principal and the senior master were found guilty of gross misconduct and abuse of office,” the statement read.

The overseeing Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Garba Muhammad Bashe, who signed the statement, further revealed that both officials have been demoted by one grade level and redeployed as classroom teachers to different schools.

In addition, the Commission directed the two to jointly refund the sum of ₦597,000, being the assessed value of the sold items.

The former principal was also directed to refund ₦72,000, which represents unpaid allowances for casual workers at the school.

Reiterating its commitment to accountability in the education sector, the Commission assured stakeholders that efforts are underway to recover all vandalized and illegally sold school property. It also pledged to collaborate with security agencies to ensure that those involved are held accountable.

…credits Bola Ige’s free education legacy

The lawmaker representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency of Oyo State and Chairman, House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has described the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “game-changer” for the future of Nigerian youths.

Oseni remarked at the weekend during a grassroots stakeholders’ engagement held at Erinkojaobe/Owode community in Ibadan.

He said the student loan scheme is a bold step towards bridging the financial gap that prevents many brilliant but indigent students from accessing tertiary education. According to him, the policy underscores the President’s commitment to youth empowerment and national development.

Reflecting on his journey, the lawmaker narrated how he benefitted from the late Chief Bola Ige’s free education policy in the old Oyo State. The programme, introduced in 1979, he said, gave children from underprivileged backgrounds an opportunity to pursue education.

“I had already concluded arrangements to travel to Lagos to learn how to sell meat,” he recounted. “But God, through Bola Ige’s free education policy, changed my story. I was enrolled at Akufo Community Secondary School without paying a kobo. That opportunity paved the way for me to become an engineer today.”

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oseni said the experience continues to inspire his commitment to educational development and grassroots empowerment, even before he was elected into office.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, it was noted that under the Remi Oseni Education Support Scheme, no fewer than 1,053 indigent but brilliant students have benefitted from free West African Examinations Council (WAEC) registration since 2024, while 1,206 others received support for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations.

Continuing, “This year alone, the support was extended to students in Igbeti, where WAEC fees for about 200 candidates were fully paid. Many of them have successfully passed their exams and secured admission into various tertiary institutions,” the statement said.

It further stated, “In addition to sponsoring examinations, the scheme also provides scholarships, bursaries, and tuition assistance to students in higher institutions across Oyo State. Hon. Oseni has also renovated schools from his personal funds, facilitated the construction of classroom blocks, and distributed educational materials.

“Without God and education, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” he said. “That’s why education remains central to my constituency projects. It is the most enduring legacy we can leave for the next generation.”

As NELFUND gains momentum—with over 500,000 applications already processed out of the 600,000 students who registered on the portal—Oseni expressed optimism that the initiative will serve as a lifeline to thousands of aspiring students.

“President Tinubu has demonstrated his commitment to building a knowledge-driven economy,” he added. “As someone who has personally experienced the power of education, I assure my constituents that this is just the beginning. More support is on the way.”

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of the 13 Joint Communities, Rotarian Afolabi Salisu, praised the lawmaker for his developmental strides and people-centered approach, describing him as “a promise keeper” and “a true representative of the people.”

He also lauded Oseni’s continued grassroots engagement and harmonious relationship with the electorate.

The Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State, on Thursday, appealed to the Federal Government and Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for urgent intervention over the poor access roads preventing the relocation of the institution to its permanent site.

The council said despite the completion of major facilities at the permanent location, students and staff are unable to access them due to deplorable road conditions.

Chairman of the Governing Council, Hon. Yakubu Dati, made the call during an inspection visit to the institution’s Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (CSAED) in Onipaanu, Surulere Local Government Area. He noted that the lack of motorable roads from Idi Araba, Oolo and Odo-Oba axes remains a critical obstacle to the school’s movement to the permanent site in Ayede, Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area.

“We are appealing to the Federal Government, and we, as council members, will also use our networks and contacts to reach out to relevant stakeholders to assist with construction of roads to the permanent site,” Dati said. “We have been there and we are quite impressed with the facilities provided there.”

Dati, a three-term commissioner, former Special Assistant on Media and Political Affairs to the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, and Council Chief in Plateau State, disclosed that 13 key projects have been completed at the permanent site, including an administrative block, urban and regional planning complex, library, medical centre, and gatehouse, among others. However, he lamented that the institution cannot fully utilise the investments without immediate road intervention.

He also acknowledged the support of the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, who visited the permanent site and promised to champion efforts to attract development to the area.

“We are also happy that the Soun visited the place and has promised to push the case so that we open up the place. Moving our academic activities to Ayede will really bring development to the axis,” he added.

The Rector of the institution, Dr. Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, assured the host community that the institution was determined to move to the permanent site despite the challenges.

“The Ayede community should not entertain any fear whatsoever. We are determined. This crop of management team, led by my humble self, is working assiduously to ensure that all barriers are surmounted,” he said.

Abdul-Hameed expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of Education, and heads of agencies like NBTE and TETFund for their support. He also commended his management team, students and staff for their commitment to the school’s vision.

“Our students have shown maximum cooperation because we are giving them proper guidance. We are producing graduates who are not job seekers but employers of labour.”

Speaking during the tour, the Ministry of Education’s representative, Mrs. Chinyere Nwokorie, commended the school’s innovation drive, describing it as “the best among its peers.” Other council members including Dr. Abraham Okunade, Alhaji Aminu Sokoto and Alhaji Goba Minter, also praised the progress made by the young institution, especially in entrepreneurship development.

Director of CSAED, Mr. Oluwaseun Owojori, said the centre currently offers NBTE-approved programmes in electrical installation, plumbing and interior decoration, with plans to introduce garment making and social media communication.

“At Fed Poly Ayede, students are not just educated, they are skilled before graduation,” he said.

The event ended with a presentation of student-made products—including leather shoes, soaps and disinfectants—to the Governing Council.

According to the board, a total of 1,955,069 candidates sat for the 2025 UTME, but only 420,415 candidates scored 200 and above, representing just 21.5 per cent of the total figure. This implies that 1,534,654 candidates—accounting for 78.5 per cent—scored below the 200 mark.

A closer look at the statistics showed that only 4,756 candidates, representing 0.24 per cent, scored 320 and above. Also, 7,658 candidates (0.39 per cent) scored between 300 and 319, while a total of 12,414 candidates (0.63 per cent) scored 300 and above.

For candidates who scored between 250 and 299, 73,441 were recorded, representing 3.76 per cent, while 334,560 candidates (17.11 per cent) scored between 200 and 249.

The majority of candidates, 983,187 (50.29 per cent), scored between 160 and 199, followed by 488,197 (24.97 per cent) who scored between 140 and 159. Additionally, 57,419 candidates (2.94 per cent) scored between 120 and 139.

Further down the chart, 3,820 candidates (0.20 per cent) scored between 100 and 119, while only 2,031 candidates (0.10 per cent) scored below 100.

JAMB also revealed that 40,247 underage candidates were allowed to take the exam based on what it described as their “exceptional abilities.” However, only 467 of them, or 1.16 per cent, attained scores that meet the defined threshold for such category. The board said the performance of these candidates would undergo additional evaluation across three more stages.

On examination conduct, JAMB said 97 candidates were found to have committed infractions during the exercise, while 2,157 others are under investigation for alleged malpractices.

The board also disclosed that 71,701 candidates were absent from the examination. It added that candidates who experienced biometric verification issues are being investigated, and those cleared will be rescheduled to write the exam at approved centres.

In addition, JAMB noted that some results, including those of blind candidates and those under the JEOG category, were still being processed and would be released once concluded.

The examination body assured that all candidates facing issues would be fairly treated, with further communication expected at a press briefing scheduled for later in the week, where modalities for result checking and addressing public concerns will be discussed.

In the 2024 edition, over 1.94 million candidates registered for the UTME, with 1,904,189 eventually sitting the exam across 118 towns and over 700 centres nationwide.

At the time, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, had stated that only 0.4 per cent of candidates scored above 300, while 24 per cent scored 200 and above. He also revealed that 76 per cent of the candidates scored below 200.

For the first time in three years, female candidates outnumbered their male counterparts, with 50.6 per cent of the total registration figure, while males made up 49.4 per cent.

A total of 3,164 persons living with disabilities registered for the 2024 UTME, marking a 36.2 per cent increase in enrolment from the previous year.
