In his Easter message to Christians in Orile-Igbon and across the Ogbomoso Zone, the monarch described the season as a solemn reminder of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for humanity.

He said, “I join Christians in Orile-Igbon and the entire Ogbomoso Zone of Oyo State in celebrating the crucifixion and resurrection of our Saviour Jesus Christ this year.”

The monarch  noted that Easter provides an opportunity for reflection on the significance of Christ’s sacrifice and the need for individuals to emulate His virtues.

“This season offers us another opportunity to remember and uphold the sacrifice which Christ made for humanity by the shedding of His blood on the cross so we may be reconciled to God,” he added.

The Olugbon urged Christians to spread love and peaceful coexistence while supporting policies of government at all levels.

“As we celebrate this season, I implore us to uphold these virtues and spread love, while supporting government’s efforts in protecting and developing our communities,” he said.

He specifically called for support for the Oyo State Government’s SAFER Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The Oyo State Government’s SAFER Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu require the support of all and sundry so our communities, state and Nigeria at large will be safer, better and prosperous places for all citizens,” the royal father  stated.

The traditional ruler also prayed for wisdom for leaders and unity among Nigerians irrespective of religious differences.

“I pray for more wisdom for all our leaders, peaceful coexistence of Nigerians of all faiths and that God will give us the Nigeria of our dream,” he said.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, 2024, as public holidays to commemorate Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Aishetu Ndayako, on Wednesday.

Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasised the significance of Easter beyond its religious connotations, stating that it promotes values of love, forgiveness, and compassion crucial for social cohesion and harmony.

He urged Christians to embrace these virtues, noting their potential to positively impact Nigeria’s socio-economic development by fostering unity, reducing conflicts, and encouraging cooperation among citizens.

Also, the Minister called upon Nigerians to demonstrate acts of charity and generosity to alleviate the material conditions of the less privileged within their communities.

As the nation prepares to celebrate Easter, Minister Tunji-Ojo extended warm wishes to Christians both at home and abroad for a joyous and meaningful celebration.

He urged all Nigerians to collaborate with the administration led by President Bola Tinubu in its commitment to achieving sustainable development and prosperity for all.

The Federal Government has declared Friday, which is Good Friday, and Monday, which is Easter Monday as public holidays to mark this year’s celebrations.

This public holiday was declared by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, in Abuja on Wednesday.

Aregbesola, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Begore, encouraged Christians to emulate the virtues of sacrifice, togetherness, forgiveness, kindness, love, peace, and patience which were attributes and practices of Jesus Christ, as exemplified by His ministry on the earth.

The minister called on Christians and all Nigerians to use the occasion of this year’s Easter celebration to pray for an end to the security challenges in parts of the country.

“Security is everybody’s business, I, therefore urge Nigerians and foreigners resident in our country to display a high sense of citizenship and public spiritedness by supporting the efforts of all security agencies in bringing peace and security of lives and property of the citizenry”, the statement said.

The minister assured citizens that the Federal Government is doing all that is necessary to ensure a peaceful transition of government following the peaceful conduct of elections.

While wishing Christians at home and in the Diaspora a happy and peaceful Easter celebration, he enjoined them to love their neighbours through acts of kindness and generosity of spirit, with the well-to-do sharing their substance with the less privileged around them.

Aregbesola once more assured Nigerians that the nation is persistently on the path to greatness and urged all to positively deploy their creative energy for the full realization of the coming prosperity. “There is surely light at the end of the tunnel,” he stated.

MOST Reverend Joseph Akinfenwa, the Bishop of Ibadan Anglican Diocese gave the advice, while lamenting the increasing rate of poverty in Nigeria.

According to a press statement issued, the Bishop advised , “Christians should celebrate with modesty, and avoid going into debt. Instead, our surpluses should be channeled into providing succor to the needy.

He stressed the need for Nigerians to draw nearer to God, “most importantly, let us all seize the occasion of this season to draw closer to God and to know Him better through His Son, Jesus Christ”.

Akinfenwa further expressed regrets , “has Nigerians are celebrating Easter in the midst of excruciating economic pain and under great anxiety over insecurity and political persecution. Our nation is witnessing an economic downturn of monumental proportwith a decline in the value of the Naira that is unprecedented in our history.

“Nigerians needs to pray more. We admonish the three arms of government in this nation to urgently bury the hatchet and begin to work together in the overall interest of the masses. For what the Nigerian masses can observe suggests that the executive, the legislature and the judiciary in Nigeria are presently having adversarial relationships.

“As we celebrate Easter, therefore, we appeal to feuding elements in the three arms of government to consider the interests of poor Nigerians over and above their narrow personal interests”.

He also stated that Jesus Christ laid down his life for the salvation of our souls. In doing so, he left us an example of how leadership should be exercised for the pursuit of the good and wellbeing of others.
