Presenting the award, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Joseph Uzuakpundu Bollyjoe, said Abdul-Hameed was recognised for his selfless service and transformative leadership within Nigeria’s polytechnic education system.

He noted that under the Rector’s stewardship, the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, had witnessed strategic reforms aimed at strengthening academic standards and promoting institutional stability.

‎According to him, the Rector’s policies have repositioned the institution for sustainable growth and aligned its technical education programmes with global best practices.

Since assuming office, the Rector has prioritised infrastructural development, administrative discipline and innovation-driven governance, earning commendations from stakeholders.

‎Reacting to the honour, Abdul-Hameed, described the award as a motivation to further deepen reforms and consolidate on existing achievements.

‎“This recognition is not just personal; it reflects the dedication of our management, staff and students who share the vision of building a globally competitive institution,” the Rector  said.

He added that the polytechnic would remain committed to excellence, integrity and continuous development in line with national educational aspirations.

Agara disclosed this on Tuesday when he received the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, in his office in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

He said the agreement aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Employment Initiative, aimed at training and empowering Nigerian youths to acquire skills and become self-reliant.

“NDE and our supervising Ministry of Labour are poised to execute the policy of the Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to train and empower Nigerian youth to learn a skill and become self-reliant and even employers of labour,” Agara said.

He commended the Polytechnic’s management for seeking collaboration with the NDE, saying, “The centre was released to you before, but I said that it is better we sign an MoU and meet virtually and now physically towards nation-building.”

The Rector, Abdul-Hameed, in his remarks, expressed appreciation to the NDE for granting the Polytechnic access to the training centre.

He said, “When former President Muhammadu Buhari established the Polytechnic in 2021, we were informed that we could write to the NDE to use its Skills Acquisition Centre in Ayede.

“We wrote during the administration of the former DG, but this DG, Honourable Silas Agara, engaged us in a virtual meeting until we all democratically agreed to the conditions for the MoU.”

The Rector, who spoke on behalf of the Governing Board Chairman, Hon. Yakubu Datti, and the institution’s management, staff, and students, said the gesture would go a long way in preparing students for future self-employment.

The Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State, has reaffirmed its commitment to academic and infrastructural excellence as it formally admitted its third set of students during a matriculation ceremony held on Thursday at the TETFund Auditorium, Iresa-Pupa Temporary Campus.

No fewer than 574 students were officially admitted into the institution for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The event was well attended by distinguished guests, including the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Professor Idris Bugaje, who was represented by Dr John Onyebuchi, Deputy Director, NBTE Southwest Zonal Office. The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) was also represented by Mallam Bala Adamu.

The traditional institution was represented by the Aresa-Pupa of Iresa-Pupa, Oba Moses Olayiwola Ajiboye JP, Ajiboye III. Other notable attendees included the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Engr. (Dr) Sani Man Yahya, represented by the Deputy Rector (Academics), Alhaji I. A. Lawal; the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Engr. (Dr) Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin, represented by the Deputy Rector (Academics), Dr Mulikatu Aliu; and the Provost of the Federal College of Education, Iwo, Prof. R. A. Adebayo, represented by the Registrar, Alhaji Yusuf Aderibigbe among others.

Speaking at the event, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, congratulated the newly admitted students and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to delivering quality technical and vocational education.

“You have earned your place here through hard work and dedication. Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, is committed to equipping you with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to thrive in your chosen careers,” he stated.

Dr Abdul-Hameed highlighted the rapid growth of the Polytechnic since its establishment in March 2021, noting that it was the first among the six newly created federal polytechnics to commence academic and administrative activities in June 2022.

He disclosed that the institution now has over 1,200 students, making it the most populated among its counterparts. It currently offers 12 accredited National Diploma (ND) programmes, with plans to introduce 29 additional programmes.

“The Office Technology and Management (OTM) programme will soon commence as its resource verification process is at an advanced stage,” he added.

The Rector further announced that the Polytechnic’s Academic Board had approved the results of its first graduating set, paving the way for its maiden convocation this year.

“A convocation ceremony to confer diplomas and prizes will be held this year, and the official date will be announced in due course,” he stated.

Addressing recent reports of a building collapse at the Polytechnic, Abdul-Hameed dismissed the claims as misleading, clarifying that no structure had collapsed on any of the institution’s campuses.

“What was falsely reported was a minor structural defect involving a cantilever under construction. The contractor is already addressing the issue under strict supervision,” he explained, urging the public to disregard the misinformation aimed at tarnishing the Polytechnic’s reputation.

While commending President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s support for education, the Rector urged the Federal Government to increase funding, particularly for infrastructure and research.

“We seek special intervention programmes to support our expansion efforts and the construction of access roads to improve connectivity,” he appealed.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the Federal Ministry of Education, TETFund, and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) towards the Polytechnic’s growth. Continuing, he lauded  Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, for his support and sought further assistance from the state government.

The Don advised the newly admitted students to embrace discipline, diligence, and innovation, urging them to take full advantage of the institution’s resources.

“The Polytechnic has provided you with the resources and a conducive environment to succeed. It is now your responsibility to make the most of this opportunity,” the Rector said.

Abdul-Hameed, speaking on behalf of a league of Rectors, during a live radio programme in Ibadan recently, emphasised the need to eliminate the dichotomy between Polytechnic and University education, asserting that both students and lecturers at Polytechnics are equally competent.

He argued that technical skills and entrepreneurship play a crucial role in a nation’s economic development, citing China and the United Arab Emirates as examples.

Highlighting the Polytechnics’ emphasis on practical skills and entrepreneurship, the don stressed the scarcity of white-collar jobs, advocating for equipping students with practical skills for self-employment after graduation.

“The way out is for the president to assent to the bill and cancel the HND to B.Tech programme, or else the disparity will continue. We hope that President Bola Tinubu signs the bill soon since the last administration failed to do so,” Abdul-Hameed remarked.

Commending the Federal Government for the approved Student Loan initiative, the Rector emphasised the importance of making education accessible to indigent students.

He suggested low tuition fees and interest-free loans, asserting that skill acquisition should be an integral part of education to enable students to repay loans through acquired skills.

“As long as students receive loans from their institutions, they should be equipped with skill acquisitions so that they can pay back after 2 years or graduation. I want to believe that 2 years are sufficient for students, and if not, the government can consider renewing or extending the loan period,” Abdul-Hameed concluded.

The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Dr. Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, has assured staff of the institution of better welfare, congratulating them and the entire Nigerian workers on the 2023 Workers’ Day celebration.

In a statement on Monday by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Adepoju, the Rector, also noted that workers are the oil that lubricates the smooth operation of any government or institution.

The statement read, “On behalf of the Governing Council and Management, Engr. Dr. Abdul-Hameed expressed the determination of the Management to ensure that the Polytechnic staff enjoy good welfare packages including training and re-training which are aimed at widening the scope of their knowledge and experience.

“ ‘May Day’ or ‘Labour Day’ as often called, May 1 is set aside to celebrate the workers and recognise their contributions to the society at large; whether in the public or private sector or even in various trades”. It continued.

Abdul-Hameed, however, charged the entire workers of the Polytechnic to remain committed to their duties as critical stakeholders in the Federal Polytechnic Ayede Project.

“The success of our Polytechnic, so far, would not have been made possible without the huge contributions of our teeming staff. Therefore, on behalf of the Governing Council, led by Prof. Dakas C. J. Dakas (SAN), and the Management, I congratulate our workers and wish them success in the assignments of the Polytechnic as envisaged by the Federal Government.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), through its subsidiary, International Center for Information and Communication Technology, Digital Bridge Institute, has concluded a five-day training workshop for no fewer than one hundred staff of Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo state, on Advanced Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADAPTI).

Advanced Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADAPTI), is a special training programme sponsored by the NCC, for Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, to enhance the skill and knowledge of the staff in the area of Information and Communication Technology.

The training had in attendance, the Institution’s Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council, Mr. Akin Odesola, Bursar, Alhaja Rasheedat Titilola Oladepo, Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Samuel Oke Ogunniyi, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments and Units as trainees.

Declaring open the training, held at the Institution’s Oke-Owode ICT Center, Ogbomoso, the Rector, Engr (Dr.) Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, who was represented by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Samuel Oke Ogunniyi, lauded the NCC and DBI for remembering the new Institution, urging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the knowledge acquired to impact the students and the system.

The Rector specifically thanked the Chairman, Board of Commissioners, NCC, Prof. Adeolu Akande for facilitating such a life-impacting programme for the institution.

“On behalf of the Governing Council Chairman of our dear Polytechnic, Prof. Dakas C. J. Dakas (SAN) and other members of the Council; my Rector, Engr Dr. T. A Abdul-Hameed, and other Principal Officers, I want to welcome everybody to the maiden training of the Institute. I thank Almighty God for giving us the privilege to be here this morning. I would like to thank the Committee of Deans for organising this programme.

“I thank Prof. Adeolu Akande, the NCC Chairman and the President of DBI, Prof. Muhammed Ajiya.

“The participants have to participate maximally in this training because it will assist us, even, in this digital era”, he said.

Also commenting, the team leader for the training, Mr. Chukwuemeka Ejiofor, harped on the importance of the training, noting that the training would go a long way in helping the staff.

Appreciating the Rector for the warm reception, Ejiofor said, “I bring greetings from the Chairman of the NCC, Prof. Adeolu Akande; the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. U.G. Danbatta, and the President of DBI, Prof. (Engr) Mohammed Ajiya.

“Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) is the training arm of the NCC. It was established in 2004 to bridge the digital divide through capacity building.

“The programme, called Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions, is of two parts: IOPT (Internet and Office Productivity Tools) and Data Analysis using SPSS. But for this seminar, we would be doing only IOPT, which has 5 modules including Introduction to Computer Systems, Cyber Security, Microsoft Word, Spreadsheet, PowerPoint, & Internet, and maybe subsequently we would come back with more of it and Data Analysis.

“This seminar will run for 5 days and during this period, we would love to solicit your support and cooperation to make the training a success. Attendance will be mandatory and required for a certificate of at least 4/5 attendance, and anyone who fails to meet will be denied the certificate.

“Finally, we have capable and able resource persons who would facilitate the courses. They are Mr. Tobi Durojaiye and Mr. Chidiebere Nwoye. I trust them to do a great job”, he assured.

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Dr Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, has rejoiced with the Muslims in the institution and across the country as they mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitri.

He also urged the polytechnic’s members of staff to renew their commitment to their duties.

Abdul-Hameed noted that it is a thing of joy that Muslims and non-Muslims have witnessed another celebration of Eid-II-Fitri, calling for prayers for the Polytechnic and the country.

The Rector enjoined Muslim faithful and public to reflect the spiritual benefits of Ramadan, which include love, peace, and justice in their daily living and, through this, contribute to the development of the community and the nation at large.

He stressed on the need for Muslims to live in the good ways which, according to him, they have exhibited during the fasting period.

The Don, in a statement signed by the Institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Adepoju, and made available to newsmen, congratulates the Polytechnic community and Muslim faithful across the country.

“On behalf of the Governing Council Chairman of Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Prof. Dakas C. J. Dakas (SAN) and members, other Principal Officers, I felicitate our Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-II-Fitri after the completion of the Ramadan.

“The Holy month provides ample opportunity for our Muslim brothers and sisters to deepen their relationship with Allah (SWT), promote a life of sacrifice, charity and love for one another”, the statement read.

It further enjoined the staff and the newly admitted students to be commitment and allow the teachings of Prophet Muhammed on the festival permeate their daily lives

“I charge our teeming staff to show dedication to their duties, even, as we just started lectures with our very pioneer students this week. The students, on their part, should be studious and be abided by all the rules and regulations put up by the Management of the Polytechnic,” the statement concluded.
