The Board reiterated its determination  to attaining more success in 2021, more than the achievements recorded in the outgoing  year.

Oyo SUBEB Chairman, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, while addressing journalists in his Ibadan office, also disclosed that the Board has recorded 95% projects completion amidst COVID-19 and End Sars protest.

He added that the Covid-19 pandemic was not an excuse for him and his associates to embark on making sure that education is seen as a tool to fight provery in the state as well as making sure that basic amenities are provided for both the teachers and the students in the State.

Adeniran further explained, “When we came into the office, we have plans and we ensure that we put in efforts to achieve this. To the glory of God, we awarded 5 model schools, 15 blocks of classrooms, we have 59 renovations done across the state as well as providing schools with chairs and tables for both the teachers and students. We also equipped the sports facility and to the glory of God, I can tell you that 5 model schools we awarded are completed and we only gave them out this year and we ensured that all hands are on desk to deliver these projects along with completion of borehole.

“We also equipped schools with farm equipment most especially on Animal husbandary and Poultry farming. Students are exposed to this to build themselves ahead of the future and prepare them to be financially stable and also to help them grow the Agricultural sector of the country. I am bold to say that we have 95% projects completion of all awarded projects given out.

“Despite  having a lot of projects inherited from the previous administration, we are focused to deliver. We inherited 54 projects from the previous administration and by the grace of God, we were able to complete 41 projects so far despite the Covid 19 pandemic”, he continued.

Adeniran noted that the present administration in the state believes in continuity as he refuses to terminate contracts awarded by the previous administration. He , however urged the contractors to speed up the delivery of projects.

“The administration of Engr Seyi Makinde is the government of all and that is why we didn’t terminate contracts awarded by the previous administration despite the fact that they awarded a lot of projects and they were unable to complete many but we took it on ourselves to ensure that we complete the projects. We also realized that the previous administration didn’t pay the counterpart funds early to ensure the projects completion but this administration under Engr Seyi Makinde has been paying the counterpart funds to ensure we give out projects and ensure completions”, Adeniran added.

Speaking on recruitment, the SUBEB boss emphasized that the exercise  is needed to boast the primary education in the state as they have lost many teachers to retirement, death and others, who have been redeployed to Secondary Schools

“We have lost many teachers to retirement, death and some to shifting from primary schools to Secondary Schools and we must replace them. We are already doing underground works as I can assure you that Oyo SUBEB recruitment will commence by the quarter of the 2021”, Adeniran concluded.

Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran while inspecting, recounted the importance of the projects to improvement of basic education in the State.

The Chairman expressed satisfaction at the standard and speed at which the ongoing projects are being executed, saying most of the projects are ready for use for the pupils when pupils resume school, next term.

He also revealed that the completion of the projects would give easy passage to the commencement the 2018 Intervention projects in earnest, noting that the inspection became very necessary, due to the Executive Governor’s passion for the sector.

The Chairman’s first call was Methodist Primary School, Bodija, where he assured the school authority that Government would soon site a Model school there, in fulfilment of the State Government’s pledge to improve learning in the State.

“As soon as we commence the next intervention Project, a Model school would be sited here. Therefore, let me plead with the traders displaying their wares at the entrance of schools; blocking the entrance of this school, to please vacate the space, as a big project would soon commence here”, he said.

The Chairman also visited Anwaru-Islam Primary School, Eleyele, 1,2,3, and St. Peters Primary School, Aremo, where he urged the contractors on site to speed up the projects, against resumption of the pupils, next term.

Further among other projects visited by the Chairman is Elewura Community Primary School, Elewura- where the project has been completed, and in use already by the School pupils.

Speaking on security threats meted out by hoodlums in most public-school premises, the Chairman promised that the State Government would henceforth ensure arrest and prosecution of anyone found culpable of disturbing the peace of schools, during and after school hours.

Meanwhile, the Chairman also monitored the ongoing Unified examination in all public pry. Schools in the State.

The Chairman said the essence of the monitoring exercise was to ensure that quality returned to the education system in the State.

He recalled that the present administration, under Governor Seyi Makinde, has strengthened the unified examination, so as to nurture the pupils from the scratch, saying this would go a long way in curbing failure.

He said, “This Government has paid for the unified examination for public primary schools in the state, which the past administration rested its responsibilities on the shoulders of the parents. With this exam, we can know the competence level of each pupil we nurture and know how to help them”.

“With this kind gesture of the Governor, no pupil would be absent based on lack of funds”, he opined.

Our reporter reliably gathered that the public schools became the target of attacks by hoodlum due to the inability of the schools’ management to pay for the services of security guards, particularly the night guards, who were said to have been relieved of their jobs after Governor Seyi Makinde announced the abolition of all forms of payment in public primary and secondary schools .

Meanwhile, Governor Makinde vowed to restore running grants to schools, but this promise has been abandoned or ignored.

It would be recalled that pupils in public secondary schools paid N1000 per term each under the education policy of Schools’ Governing Boards (SGBs) of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s administration. The N1000, which serves as  ‘baseline funds’  were domiciled in the accounts of the schools for their smooth-running.

As if that were not enough,  very recently, another newly constructed school – Oluyole OLGC Primary School, Ayegun, Ibadan, was visited by hoodlums and vandals.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran on Tuesday declared war on those who sabotaged some of the newly constructed Model Schools in the State, saying the present administration would treat them as saboteurs who maliciously damage government properties.

Adeniran, who decried the incessant attack, promised that when caught, perpetrators of such acts would be punished with extreme severity regardless of their political affinity.

The SUBEB boss, also alleged that these deliberate destructive acts were aided by some teachers and staff members of the school.

 According to him, “It is unfortunate that these deliberate destructive acts on one of our Model schools reportedly were aided by some teachers and staff members of the school, but let me assure you that this administration would tackle the menace of thuggery among our teachers in the interest of our children.

“This government frowns at such shameful act and we promise to fish out those who master-minded this. As a government, we will not allow anybody mortgage the future of our children, for their selfish interests,” he added.

While he assured  that the state government, through the Board would not take with levity vandalization of any of its properties built for the good use of pupils, Adeniran also called on community  leaders to commit themselves into securing such properties built within their communities.

He further promised that government would carry out all necessary inquiries into what led to the destruction of items in the said school, saying the state government is not a toothless dog that would not bite offenders.

The SUBEB chair, however reassured that the present administration would put an end to vandals’ pandemic in the state, just as he stressed  that government would put in place stiff security measures to guard schools and ensure rigid penalties for offending teachers and staff members who aid such act.

The Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran made the commendation during an on-the-spot assessment visit to some on-going project sites in the 10 Local Government Areas in the Northern part of the state.

Adeniran explained that the government was using its resources as counterpart fund to construct projects that would provide conducive learning environment for children across the state.

“We hope to entrench a lasting legacy in the area of basic education, by providing good learning environment for these children”.

The Chairman posited that the projects would go a long way in promoting the socio-educational development of the state, assuring that some of the projects, including four (4) Model Schools, would be ready for usage in the next academic session.

“This is why Governor Seyi- Makinde in his wisdom has decided to ensure that quality work is provided by all contractors”, he added.

Meanwhile, during the inspection, the SUBEB boss announced that the State Government would site a Model school at the Command Science Secondary School, Saki.

He said the State Government would make provisions for this in the 2019 intervention funds, as part of Government’s contribution to the development of education in the region.

While enumerating the level of performance of the projects, which he said was eighty percent completed and ready for commissioning, the Chairman further assured members of the public that most of the projects would be ready for use by next session.

Among the schools visited were St. Paul Ang. Pry. sch. Okutapemo, Anwaru-Islam Jnr. High School, Iseyin, Awoyemi Commercial High School, Okeho.

Others include LA Pry School, Olele; First ABS Basic School, Gbelekale Ilero; Muslim Community Pry School, Isale Alfa, Saki; Command Science Secondary School, Saki among others.

In a statement, the Chairman, Oyo SUBEB, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran described the said recruitment exercise as false and misleading, warning members of the public to be wary of frauds.

“Oyo State Government’s attention has been drawn to activities of syndicates extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of recruitment in the teaching services of the State. Please disregard such information, as it is false and misleading”, he said.

He further revealed that while efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend these fraudsters, “the general public should note that Oyo SUBEB has not begun any form of recruitment exercise”.

Dr. Adeniran therefore pleaded with members of the public not to fall victim of such antics, under the guise of recruitment.

According to Dr. Adeniran, “it is pertinent we state that Oyo SUBEB or the State Government is currently not recruiting. Therefore, the information is targeted at deceiving unsuspecting members of the public”.

The Chairman warned job seekers to be vigilant and ensure they do not fall prey of perpetrators of such evil antics.

Speaking further, he said “we would be transparent in our operations and make any recruitment exercise known to the public, through legitimate means”.
