Eniade , while speaking at a reunion program organised by the 1997 set of Bishop Phillips Academy, Ibadan, also stated that financial issues have  made pension unreliable as state governors are finding it extremely difficult to be up to date in salary payment.

The ex-Head of Service, who was  ill-at ease over the already gloomy unemployment situation in the country said , ” It is unfortunate that many graduates who are unemployed are still in the labour market so many parents who invested in their children’s education suffer from this”.

According to him, “It is important for every hale and hearty employee to prepare for his retirement right now. While I was in active service. My mother gave me two advises: don’t use all your hands to eat and don’t use your money for bean cakes (enjoyment). It is important for workers to start preparing for retirement right from the day they start working,”he said.

“I am not vast about the retirement pattern in the private sector because I served in the public sector. In most cases when some organizations restructure, they will have to downsize, extinction, bankruptcy, and other factors can cause retirement.

“Due to the many challenges of pension in the country, the federal government adopted the British model of contributory pension but it has failed because many states of the federation can’t meet up because they refuse to pay.

“In essence, financial issues have made pension unreliable. How do you expect states that can’t pay salary to pay pension? I’ll use this moment to commend Governor Seyi Makinde, he is doing well in that regard.

“In Britain, retirement life is very easy because you are entitled to various things like free basic healthcare and transport ticket but all these are not readily available in Nigeria. Most retirees in our country use their pension to buy drugs to feed themselves in life”, he submitted.

Sharing tips on how workers can secure a good retirement plan, Eniade continued: “Good and trusted relationship with spouses. Good upbringing and quality education for our children. The holy Bible says ‘train your child and he shall give you peace.

“During our days, public education had great quality and schools like Bishop Phillips Academy that were privately owned was heavily subsidised by the government making it affordable for everyone but the situation is not the same today again. In this case, all of us must continue to advocate for quality public education in the country.

“The fourth point is good healthcare”, he emphasized.

Also commenting at the event is a three-time Commissioner in Oyo State, Dr. Morounkola Thomas, who spoke on the topic: ‘Importance of quality education in nation building: the place of alumni group under review’.

The former Executive Assistant to late Governor Abiola Ajimobi on political matters, noted that the place of alumni association as a critical stakeholder in the provision of quality education in schools is of essential importance.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Ibadan Regional Chairman of the 1997 set of the alumni association, Pastor Oyewale Oyegoke appreciated all members who took their time to attend the reunion program despite their tight schedule.

Speaking further, he revealed that in 2020, the alumni association embarked on a project titled ‘operation zero tattered cloth and footwear’.

According to the Chairman, the project, which involves the provision of new school uniform and footwear for students with tattered ones; recorded a success story, assuring that the association is determined to do more.

Thomas, also noted that using Lamist or Senaco group to cause division in the party will only give opportunity to the opposition to penetrate.

The governor’s aide made this remark when he received the representatives of members of the transition committee of local governments who served between 2011 and 2015 in his office.

He enjoined every members of the party to maintain unswerving loyalty to Governor Ajimobi who is the leader of the party.

The three term commissioner, however warned those promoting SENACO and LAMIST groups in the party to desist from their divisive actions, noting that he has watched with keen interest the disturbing trend desperate and mischievous political elements have tended to steer the ship of the party to irretrievable destruction.

“When people say they are LAMISTS, none of them have benefitted from Alhaji Lam more than I. I was his super commissioner and I enjoyed a healthy working relationship with him. He has done his own part and gone.

“Baba Lam during his life time as our leader used to preach peace, unity and joint efforts toward achieving goals.

“Governor Ajimobi gives respect and honor to leaders , we should also replicate such by honouring him as our leader and follow his path”.

Thomas disclosed that some people had earlier planned to leave the party but with the recent development, the table has turned. He observed that some members are now regretting their wrong steps , as the party is getting bigger and better , “we are not losing members, but increasing on a daily basis”.

While commending the group for honouring the governor, Thomas added, ” between 2011 and now many people have passed through the system holding one position or the other but not all of them appreciated the gesture. Even those who have opportunity to serve at a higher position failed to appreciate the governor’s gesture.

“We are rounding off the second term of this administration and things are changing, our fortunes are getting better”, said Thomas.

Earlier in his remarks, the spokesperson for the group, Prince Afonja Olusola assured that the group will continue to appreciate the governor for considering them worthy to serve in his government.

According to speculations, the governor is currently nursing the ambition to seek election into the Nigerian Senate in 2019, through his Oyo South Senatorial District, the most populated in the state.

On the contrary, Thomas has said he is not aware of his principal’s ambition.

The governor’s aide who made the disclosure to Mega Icon Magazine recently in Ibadan also said that the governor is more preoccupied with providing effective leadership, widening the scope of his party, and preparing the party for its ability to win elections over and over again.

“The governor is not even thinking so much about himself, but thinking about the legacies to leave behind. The time has not come for us to say that, I am not aware, he hasn’t told me. When he gives me instruction to say I am going for this, then I will know how to handle it.

“So, when the time comes for us to pick senatorial candidates, if he’s interested, he has a legitimate right to be interested. When we get to the bridge, we shall cross it”, the former commissioner submitted.

This is sequel to his claims that he coordinated the Oke-Ogun zone during the electioneering period.

Reacting to the development, in a chat with an online news tabloid, Dr Morohunkola Thomas said the minister is goofed in making such  assertion, stressing that Barrister Shittu lost in his own polling booth during the 2015 elections.

He also alleged that the minister canvassed openly for the candidate of Accord party (AP), just as he punctured his claims that he coordinated the Oke-Ogun zone during the electioneering periods, emphasising that he took the candidate of his party, the incumbent governor, Abiola Ajimobi to court challenging his nomination “.

Dr Thomas, who expressed his amazement at the development said, “what did he coordinate? Did he even win his polling booth? The APC did not even win in his polling booth,  he was not involved. This man canvassed openly for the candidate of Accord party (AP) in the last election, he did not only did that, he actually took the candidate of his party, that is the incumbent governor , Senator Isiak Abiola Ajimobi to court challenging his nomination, he was putting all kind of legal roadblocks on the way of the party from winning that election, if we had lost that election I am sure  Shittu would have decamp to Accord Party (AP) so what impunity is he talking about?”.

“This governor is restructuring the party, he is reforming and reinvigorating the party, when we  set up council of elders that were inaugurated, is that impunity, this is the involvement of credible and notable leaders across all the local governments coming together  to advise the government and move the party forward, it’s that impunity, is that not democratic, is that not the way to run the party,  is Barrister Shittu a financial member of this party, what contribution has he made to the party, what was his contribution to the election, what role did he play even in his local government, Saki West in the course of the election?”, he questioned.

Dr Thomas continued, ” we were on the road campaigning  for the governor and President Buhari, Barrister  shittu was not involved , I remember vividly that he surfaced at Mapo when the then General Buhari came for campaign after that he fizzled out again, so he has not  integrated himself into this party, he is not rooted in this party,  he doesn’t even know the affairs of this party, how can  he be describing the action of the governor and the elders as impunity, I think that is far from the truth”.

He, however counseled the Minister to count himself very lucky to have actually been appointed.
