Abubakar submitted his resignation to President Bola Tinubu on Saturday, following a private meeting at the Presidential Villa.

Addressing State House reporters shortly after he met with the President, Abubakar confirmed the news but refrained from disclosing specific reasons for his decision to step down.

He, however, noted that President Tinubu understood and respected his decision.

“I came to visit Mr. President to brief him on issues, as is customary, and today was no exception,” Abubakar said. “After the briefing, I tendered my resignation, and Mr. President graciously approved and accepted it.”

During his remarks, Abubakar expressed deep gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve the nation under his administration.

He highlighted the significance of his tenure, which extended for 15 months—a period that allowed him to serve under two different presidents consecutively.

“I used the opportunity to thank Mr. President for giving me the chance to serve Nigeria under his transformational leadership. Serving for an extended period of 15 months, and under two presidents at that, is indeed very rare,” he added.

Despite stepping down from his role, Abubakar assured that his dedication to Nigeria remains unwavering.

“I will continue to remain professionally committed to serving this great country in any capacity I can,” he promised.
