The seal-off, as learnt was aimed at ensuring peace around the secretariat.

Members of the National Working Committee (NWC) who showed up at the party secretariat were prevented from gaining access to the party house .

This is as a result of division within the party’s leadership over who takes over as the Acting National Chairman, following the suspension of the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

It would be recalled that the party’s National Working Committee had earlier affirmed former Oyo State Governor, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, as the Acting National Chairman.

But, due to former governor Ajimobi’s unavoidable absence, the NWC appointed the National Vice Chairman, South-South, Hilliard Etta to act on his behalf.

Meanwhile, the APC Deputy National Secretary, Mr Victor Giadom also declared himself as the acting National Chairman, on the strength of a Federal Capital Territory High Court order obtained on March 16.

Also, the embattled National Chairman, Oshiomhole, says he has accepted the verdict of the Court of Appeal which upheld his suspension.

Oshiomhole noted that his next line of action will be determined by his lawyers.

According to him, “We thank their lordships, they have given their judgement. In our democracy, the court is an independent arm of government.

“When they hand that judgment, it is not for you to pick whether you will obey or not. I accept their judgement in good fate.

“My lawyers will advise having studied the judgement, what the next line of action will be. So at this point, I will just thank their Lordships for their judgment and look forward to my lawyers on what should be the next line if there should be another next line of action,” he added.

Governor Obaseki and the other guests had earlier attended the maiden convocation ceremony of the Edo University, Iyahmo, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

According to Mr. Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser to Governor Obaseki on Media and Communication Strategy, the Oba of Lagos and the governor had gone to Comrade Oshiomhole’s house to honour an invitation for a lunch after the ceremony at the university.

“The former governor’s house is just opposite the university. Governor Obaseki, the Oba of Lagos and other guests had gone to Oshiomhole’s house for lunch when they were attacked by thugs led by one Romeo, said to be one of Oshiomhole’s nephews,” he narrated.

It took the intervention of the governor’s security to prevent a blood bath as several vehicles were smashed by the thugs.

Governor Obaseki , however condemned the attack, saying that it was shameful for such an attack to take place at the residence of the National Chairman of the ruling party in the state and at the national level.

The governor added  that the resort to violence was inappropriate and an unfortunate incident.

“It is very unfortunate that we can’t feel safe in the house of our National Chairman.

“I am not sure that if I visit the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that they will attack me the way they did in the house of the APC National Chairman.

“It is unfortunate that things have degenerated to this extent. But we will continue to pursue peace. We cannot afford to lose the gains of the last three years. We will continue to pursue peace,” Obaseki submitted.

Omo-Agege  in a statement signed  by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Yomi Odunuga, stated this in Abuja on Sunday.

The lawmaker, who described the development as callous, cowardly, inhumane and totally unacceptable, said this  should be condemned by all, noting  that political practice in the country should not be allowed to degenerate to a situation where violence becomes the language of activism by both politicians and their supporters no matter how disgruntled such persons may be.

Oshiomhole was reported to have escaped a major attempt on his life by armed thugs who swooped on his Benin residence in Okorotun Street, GRA, on Saturday. The thugs were said to have shot sporadically into the air.

The Deputy President of the Senate  also called on the police to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to book.

This, he noted, will serve as a deterrent to others that political violence is not the best way to resolve conflicts, if any.

“Such criminal attack, remains utterly condemnable and illegal. Whatever their grievances, they should learn to explore dialogue rather than resort to violence.

” I call on the police to get to the root of the matter by prosecuting those involved in the act. It is my belief that the fine principles and ethos of democratic practice do have inbuilt mechanisms through which internal wranglings can be resolved without recourse to violence as it was the case in Edo State on Saturday.

“I would like to call on the parties involved to explore those options that would strengthen the party as entrenched in the constitution of the APC as that is the best way to move the state and the nation to the Next Level in which all citizens are expected to reap the dividends of the trust they reposed in the government led by President Muhammadu Buhari”, he stated.

Omo-Agege, however called on parents to warn their wards against political violence, adding that the attack negated democratic principles.
