The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Bayo Lawal stated this on Friday  in an interactive session with the 33 LG Caretaker Chairmen in the State with the Federal Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission team (RMAFC), held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan.

Speaking through his Permanent Secretary, Elder Tunde Adeyanju, the Commissioner noted that the scanty purse of the LGs was as a result of little revenue available, adding that if their allocation can be pushed up by the Federal Government will enhance them to perform maximally.

He, however urged the Caretaker Chairmen to cooperate with the Commission as effort of data collation in administration cannot be over emphasized.

In his remarks, the team Lead, Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Alhaji Abdullahi Yanian, said Local Governments in the country need to fashion out a mechanism to get more Internally Generated Revenue.

Emphasizing the purpose of the team visit to the State, Alh. Abdullahi said the team was on a Nationwide Sensitization and Advocacy Tour of the 36 States and FCT on data gathering and management and will handle data collation exercise in the state, stressing that obtaining accurate data will make the government to be informed and to make decisions which would eventually be to the benefits of the people.

According to him “a framework must be put in place to let people pay for what they want. People want good roads, but do not want to pay taxes. It is time to have a retrospection on how functional the grassroot administration was during the Native Authority .”

He emphasized that local governments have potentials to generate more revenue than the state and these must be harnessed for development.

Also commenting, the Federal Commissioner of the Council cum  Oyo State host, Mr. Bimbo Kolade stressed that the exercise will be in three stages: advocacy and information, data collation and verification; these he said will ensure that the collated data are accurate.

He however called for maximum cooperation of the Caretaker Chairmen and officials at the LGs in the State with the team, to enable the success of the exercise.

While speaking at a sensitization programme held for Local Government Management staffs today in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon Olufunmilayo Orisadeyi, reiterated the state government’s stance on having an all-inclusive and realistic budget that will cater for the basic needs of local government areas.

Mrs. Orisadeyi assured that the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration is poised to have a working third tier of government that will be in tune with delivering on the four-cardinal agenda of Health, Security, Education and Agribusiness which is rudimentary to the survival of every human.

The commissioner advised the local government management not to present a bogus and unachievable budget, citing that the governor readjusted the 2019 state budget passed by the initial administration to meet the yearnings of the citizens.

The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Tunde Adeyanju, in his remarks, said the sensitization programme is geared towards telling them the governments policy direction and guiding them by giving direction on their budget.

He advised the planning team to make a budget in line with their income expectation, overhead cost and revenue so that the planned action can be executed as budgeted.

He stated that the local government areas outside Ibadan metropolis have predominant occupation of farmers, he admonished them to lightly tax this population as they are mostly subsistent.

Reverend Samuel Titilola Olayinka Akande was honoured by the state government for his contributions to the development of Oyo state and Nigeria.

In his remarks, the state commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr Bimbo Kolade who delivered the message of Governor Abiola Ajimobi at the programme said government recognized the efforts of Reverend Ola Akande in the Nation building hence the need for naming the Bashorun-Ashi- Bodija road after him.

According to Mr Kolade, the present administration under Governor Abiola Ajimobi will continue to appreciate meaningful contributions of sons and daughters of the state for the advancement of the country.

The Chairman, Ibadan North Local Government, Alhaji Bashiru Adegoke said naming of Ashi road to Rev S T Ola Akande was an unanimous decision by the residents and landlords of the area.

The council boss said the honour bestowed on Rev Ola Akande will also ginger some indigenes and residents to contribute their quota to the progress of the state.

The Chairman Ibadan North Local Government Traditional Council, Oba Abimbola Ajibola described Rev Ola Akande as good ambassador of the state and Nigeria

In his address, Rev Dr.Samuel Ola Akande said he will forever be grateful to God and Oyo state government for the honour.
