The outgoing Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state, Chief Akin Oke, has cautioned former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala against divisive tendencies capable of further polarising the party in the state

Oke, also alleged that the former governor has finally unmasked himself as the brain behind the plot to cause schism in the party, describing Akala’s action as “very disappointing”.

He assured that the party would emerge stronger from the current crisis characterising the emergence of the new set of State Executive Committee members.

Speaking to a section of the media at the State Secretariat of the party in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, on Friday, after the meeting of party leaders held in compliance with a directive from the APC’s national secretariat, Chief Oke played down the possibility of Oyo APC going into war with itself ahead of the 2023 general election.

The outgoing chairman said, “At the peace meeting which we attended at the national secretariat of our Party last week, we were directed to come back home and sort things out. The national secretary, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, mandated us to ask the zonal leaders to revalidate the initial harmonized list to reflect the input of all tendencies. More than 40 critical stakeholders were at the Abuja meeting and the Secretary was very apt in his address.

“The zonal leaders swung into action immediately and they communicated their efforts to me through phone conversations. I must reveal that the national secretariat had a telephone conference with Chief Alao-Akala and myself on Wednesday during which the peace template was re-established. I later engaged the former governor on a private phone conversation and we both agreed to a physical meeting on Friday (today) with the zonal leaders to review what they might have done in their respective zones.

“But to my surprise, Chief Alao-Akala issued a statement the same day where he announced that the meeting for the ratification of harmonized lists drawn from all the seven zones would take place in his private residence and invited unauthorized persons in clear negation of the directive we got from Abuja. The question to ask here is; when did the APC become the property of an individual? It seems the former governor mistakes the ‘A’ in the acronym of our party for either Alao or Akala.

“Nevertheless, he remains my brother and a critical stakeholder in our Party unless he is trying to say otherwise. Nine out of the eleven members of the Harmonization Committee came to the Party Secretariat today (Friday) to do the needful and they all signed the documents generated. At this juncture, I must state that my brother (Bayo Akala) should learn to leave above board and stop polarising the Progressive family. I understand he has finally unmasked himself as the brain behind the plot to cause schism in our party and I find this very disappointing”, he alleged.

Oke continued, “If he thinks the best thing to do at a time like this is to make himself the godfather of one out of about 15 governorship aspirants, I wish him well. Meanwhile, It is very disappointing that he could employ funny tactics to aid those whose only wish is to hijack the party for their own selfish ambitions but I can assure the whole world that the committed Progressives would not watch and allow them destroy their heritage.

“What they did at Alao-Akala’s residence today was just to further manifest their undemocratic traits. They brought the same Lawan Gambo and his friends as Appeal Committee members today and we have confirmed that the national Secretariat did not send them to the state for any assignment. Just last week, Gambo was put to shame in the open when it was established that the delegate list he brought to us the last time was fake. In the end, justice will prevail and all the anti-democratic forces in our Party will be exposed.

“As a matter of fact, we are in regular contact with the national secretariat of our party and we have been asked to bring the authentic harmonized list of state Executive Committee which would reflect the true wish of the generality of party membership. To this end, I urge genuine party faithful and the general public to remain calm as everything will be alright in no time”, the Oyo APC chairman reassured.

The stakeholders of All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Oyo state have come up with a unanimous decision to work together and ensure peace, fairness and adherence to the laid down guidelines in the conduct of the forthcoming Congresses of the party across the state.

This resolve formed the conclusion reached at the stakeholders meeting of the party held today at Lafia Hotel, Ibadan in a preparation for the nationwide Congresses of the APC starting on July 24, 2021 with the Ward Congress.

Contained in a statement by Olawale Sadare, the Personal Assistant (Media) to the State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, Oyo APC stakeholders would not leave any stone unturned to ensure total adherence to the guidelines released from the national secretariat of the party in the conduct of the Congresses “as only this would be solidify the confidence of all party faithful and also pave the way for post-congress unity and harmony as desired.

The state chairman set the tone for the harmonization of positions from all the stakeholders who attended the meeting as he said in his opening remarks that the leadership of the party would not give room for any undemocratic conduct from any quarters before, during and after the Congresses. He also assured party members to remain focused and accommodate one another without any recourse to what had happened in the past.

“We are fascinated by the turn out of critical stakeholders and the calibre of party stalwarts in this all-important meeting which was organized to enable us forge a common front ahead of the forthcoming Congresses of our great Party. I am therefore using this opportunity to assure all party faithful of transparency and fairness in the conduct of the Congresses which we intend to use as a threshold for us to reclaim power in 2023. Now is the time for everyone to go to their Wards and sort things out democratically and harmoniously.” Oke stated.

Also commenting, a former governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, sued for peace and understanding among gladiators and their supporters as he observed that unity, trust and hardwork were required from all to strengthen Oyo APC.

“The good people of the state are expecting much from us in APC as they can’t wait to have us in power again following the many disappointments they have got in the hands of the present PDP administration.

“Therefore, all hands must be on deck to justify the confidence reposed in us. All we are asking all leaders, chieftains and members to do is to cooperate among themselves and fashion out acceptable modalities with which we could achieve the desired success at the end of the day. As you have had from Chief Oke, let’s us all go to our individual Wards and participate in the exercise as mature minds and democrats which we are”, he added.

Other speakers at the meeting include former Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, Chief Kazeem Raji and Hon. Isiaka Kazeem spoke in support of the motion moved by the party chairman as they agreed on allowing stakeholders in each of the 351 Wards across the state to sort out things in relation to the planned July 24 Congresses at the Ward level. It then became a consensus opinion which attendees accepted and ratified for the planned exercise.

Stakeholders at the meeting include; the Honourable Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Chief Sunday Dare, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, Chief Moses Alake-Adeyemo, Sen AbdulFatai Buhari, Sen. Ayoade Adeseun, Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin, Sen. Adesoji Akanbi, Chief Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, Prof. Soji Adejumo, Alh. Olalekan Alli, Hon. Segun Odebunmi, Hon.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has announced the distribution of more membership registration and revalidation materials across the thirty three local government areas in the state signalling the continuation of the exercise which was earlier put on hold for reasons attributed to logistics challenge.

Party chairmen at local government levels and other relevant officials were on Thursday summoned to the Oyo APC state Secretariat at Oke-Ado, Ibadan to take the delivery of more membership registration materials after due diligence had been carried out by the members of the 7-man Monitoring Committee from the National Secretariat who were on hand to supervise the exercise in the state.

In a statement issued and made available to journalists in Ibadan by Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan and Olawale Sadare, Chairman and Secretary of the Party’s Media and Publicity Committee respectively, Oyo APC stated that it was satisfied with the success recorded so far in the conduct of the exercise which would now be concluded in the last day of this month.

“We are glad to announce to members of the public that our Party has ordered all its field officers to resume at their duty post immediately to recommence the membership registration and revalidation process across all the 4,778 Polling Units in the 351 Wards of the 33 local government areas across the state. This announcement came as the Party received more registration materials from Abuja following a successful review of the exercise which commenced in the first week of February across the state.

“We have been inundated with genuine concerns and agitation over the suspension of the registration exercise in most of the centres even after Abuja had extended the closing date till the end of March, 2021. This was as a result of the inability of designated officials to attend to many people who had thronged the registration centres following the exhaustion of materials earlier deployed. Now that more materials have been provided, members of the public who are desirous of joining the Broom Party can visit the Polling Unit nearest to them and get registered.

“Meanwhile, it is also imperative for those who recently joined Oyo APC from other political parties particularly former ZLP and ADC members as well as the disciples of former Governor Rashidi Ladoja to take full advantage of the new opportunity of recommencement of the registration exercise and get registered at the grassroots level even as the Chief Akin Oke-led leadership of the Party has again assured that all willing members of the public would be attended to without any discrimination”, the statement added.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has blamed Governor Seyi Makinde for the final collapse of the coalition arrangement upon which he got to power in 2019 as the opposition party stated that the governor deserved sympathy in view of the rate at which he was allegedly being deserted by disappointed political gladiators midway into his four-year tenure.

Oyo APC’s submission apparently came against the backdrop of the Tuesday final withdrawal of virtually all the political bigwigs in the camp of former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, from the government of Gov. Makinde and subsequent collapse of all the structures of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) at all levels into the opposition APC in the state.

APC in a statement issued in Ibadan and made available to journalists on Thursday by its Caretaker State Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, through his Personal Assistant (media), Olawale Sadare, saluted the courage of all political gladiators who, together with their teeming followers, decided to pitch their tent with the broom party in what has been described by informed pundits as “master stroke against the confused PDP government in the state”.

“It has again been confirmed that Oyo state is a divine project which is destined for success despite the setback suffered in 2019. Now that virtually all the major coalition partners have deserted Gov. Makinde on account of his failure to honour agreement made voluntary and also his inability to perform in office as a worthy successor to Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, attention has shifted to APC and this is understandable.

“Meanwhile, we can sympathize with Gov. Makinde and the remnants of his political household over their loss of touch even before time. With the kind of power, influence and resources available to an average governor in Nigeria, an average state helmsman who loses so many supporters, allies and benefactors in a few time in office, deserves the pity of all and sundry even though the case of Gov. Makinde was self inflicted and predictable”, Sadare stated.

In the mean time, the leadership of Oyo APC has assured politicians from the camps of Sen. Rashidi Ladoja and ZLP that their joining the APC was a right decision taken and which would not be regretted as “it was a necessary step to arrest the slide in participatory democracy and good governance being foisted again on the state by the PDP administration of Gov. Seyi Makinde.

“We welcome our brothers and sisters from ‘Bodija’ as well as the heroic decision to collapse the entire structures of the ZLP into that of the APC in Oyo state in an unprecedented way. This bold step shall be reciprocated positively as we make bold to state that nobody shall be discriminated against as regards whether they are old or new members. It is even good that this is happening at the time our dear party is carrying out a nationwide membership registration and revalidation exercise.

“The leadership of Oyo APC has instructed our field officers in all the 4,778 Polling Units across the state to accommodate all the new members and get them registered accordingly while we would soon meet major gladiators on the need to fully integrate everyone into the progressive family which is not even new to most of them. The process of rescuing the Pacesetter state from charlatans has begun in earnest and no well meaning stakeholder or member of the society will be left behind”, the statement continued.

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Membership Revalidation and Registration Exercise Committee for Oyo State, Hon. Abubakar Bawa Bwari has expressed satisfaction over the degree of cooperation, friendship and brotherhood existing among the stakeholders of the party in the state, saying that the exercise has remained satisfactory and hitch free.

Speaking at the take off of the training program for the various levels of registration supervisors at the APC State Secretariat in Oke Ado Ibadan yesterday, Bwari said that he was profoundly impressed with the level of cooperation and speed with which issues are being resolved among the leaders of APC in the state.

So far, the Chairman who is the immediate past Minister of Mines and Steel Development disclosed that the exercise has not recorded any hitch and was optimistic that the registration exercise in Oyo State would eventually become a model for other states and a point of reference in future exercises.

Apparently referring to a publication in an online portal falsely claiming of a division among the top leaders of APC on the ongoing registration exercise, the former House of Representatives Chief Whip said: “we are proud of the friendship existing among the stakeholders of APC in this pace setter state. I am highly convinced that our party will regain Oyo State in 2023. I can see that the process of winning the state in 2023 has already begun”

An online portal had earlier reported a non existence crisis in the registration exercise alleging that the Senators from the state had hijacked the registration exercise.

The committee Chairman supported by its Secretary ,Barrister Yakubu Bashiru and a veteran journalist and member of the committee Mallam Ahmed Sajoh in the comprehensive training explained the various processes of the exercise as well as the obligations and responsibilities of the supervisors which he said must be observed strictly.

Specifically, Alhaji Bawa Bwari admonished the supervisors at the various levels to avoid discrimination and exclusion and that they “must be responsible and respectful in their dealings with prospective party members.

Other members of the committee at the training session were Muhamed Badru Umar, Hon. Farludeen Arebi, Mallam Abdulsalam Omade and Hon. Chris Wigwe.

Earlier in his welcome address, the acting Chairman of the party for Oyo State, Chief Akin Oke urged the trainees to be attentive and make the best of the training for them to pass the knowledge effectively to the other layers of supervisors. Chief Akin Oke and Senator Femi Lanlehin, Chairman of Technical Committee for the exercise stayed attentively, throughout the training session which was attended by all the 66 statutory supervisors from the 33 local government areas of the state

The party had flagged off its nationwide membership registration and revalidation exercise on Saturday as President Muhammadu Buhari revalidated his membership at Daura, Kastina state.

Oyo APC, in a statement issued in Ibadan on Saturday and signed by the State Caretaker Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, resolved to work with the National Secretariat and all stakeholders to deliver on the exercise “which is expected to showcase to the world that all progressive politicians are one indivisible family determined to make the APC more virile and cohesive.

Oke in the statement said, “The stakeholders meeting slated for this Monday at 11am at the new Party Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, is aimed at mobilizing all relevant leaders and chieftains of the APC in Oyo state who in turn would sensitize and encourage members and supporters of the Party at the grassroots to participate fully in the exercise without any rancour or misgivings.

“Specifically, stakeholders expected at the meeting include; all members of the Elders’ Advisory Council, all former and serving members of the National Assembly, all former and serving Principal Officers of the Oyo State House of Assembly, all serving Federal Government appointees, all former commissioners and members of the State Executive Committee, all former gubernatorial aspirants, all members of the State Working Committee as well as National and Zonal Executive Committee Members from Oyo state.

“The meeting would be an attestation to the mileage already reached in bringing all party faithful together for the task ahead. Therefore, it is imperative for all concerned to attach much importance to the meeting as admission to the venue and conduct would be strictly in accordance to laid down covid-19 protocols”, he continued.

The stakeholders, who gathered at the Ibadan Civic Centre, also emphasized that the meeting was not at the instance of individual, group or bloc of aspirants or those seeking to hijack for selfish reasons, adding that efforts were made to reach out to all gladiators and prospective aspirants without any exception as they all pledged their support for the initiative.

The meeting had in attendance, the party’s caretaker chairman and secretary in the state , Chief Akin Oke, Hon. Mojeed Olaoya , Sen. Teslim Folarin, Chief. Bayo Adelabu, Professors Taoreed Adedoja, and Soji Adejumo.

Others included, Hon. Tolulope Akande Sadipe , Mr. Bimbo Adekanmbi, Prince Abbas Aleshinloye, Dr. Fola Akinosun, local government chairmen and councilors in Ibadanland ; among other party faithful .

Also, the trio of Prof. Adeolu Akande, Senator Adesoji Akanbi and Chief Niyi Akintola were well represented at the meeting.

According to the communique signed by Alhaji Adesina Alabi for Meeting Conveners and Communique Drafting Committee, the stakeholders informed that the meeting was the brainchild of some concerned members of Oyo APC who feel the need for Progressive family members across the eleven Local Government Areas of Ibadanland to channel a new course and mobilize for unity, harmony and cooperation with a view to repositioning the party.

They further re-echoed the need for oneness and togetherness, stressing that this was considered very essential for the party to bounce back and reclaim its lost glory and thus emerge stronger and more virile.

Also contained in the communique, the conveners regretted the step taken by some faceless people to discredit the meeting through what they described as sponsored noise in the mass media which was aimed at discouraging genuine members and delegates from attending the meeting.

The party’s fanatic loyalists lauded conveners for the efforts made towards strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols.

However, the stakeholders again , appealed to those behind the tagged futile call for boycott of the meeting to have a rethink and join others to rebuild Oyo APC if they were genuine in their claims as members of the Party.

Leaders and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday, made a collective vow to work assiduously with other stakeholders to dislodge the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government from power.

At a meeting of the Oyo Central Senatorial district of the APC held at Oyo and which was attended by notable political gladiators within the Progressive fold across the state, all the speakers were unanimous in their call for unity and harmony among leaders and members of the party particularly as the nationwide membership registration and revalidation exercise drew nearer.

In his address at the meeting; former governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, expressed optimism about the APC claiming overwhelming victory in all elective posts across Oyo state and Nigeria in 2023, “provided all patriots and party faithful are ready to work together and do the needful to win the confidence of the electorate in all the nooks and crannies.

“In Oyo state, it is only the APC that can stop the APC from winning all the future elections just like it played out in 2019. Now that we have put the past behind us, we must all rise up to take up the challenge and reclaim our dear state from charlatans who are in the saddle at the moment. It is obvious that the real politicians are in the APC while the few ones in PDP have been blocked from participating in governmental affairs.

“To this end, we must be able to put our house in order and also attract those gladiators in the PDP who have been humiliated by the man in power. It is not yet time for intra party struggle for party tickets as what is important now is how to build a strong and virile Oyo APC.” Alao-Akala submitted.

Speaking at the meeting, the lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Teslim Folarin commended party leaders and members for their steadfastness and loyalty in the previous months “even when it seemed the party would not survive the crisis confronting it immediately the 2019 gubernatorial poll was lost. It is the dawn of a new era and we shall all work together to improve the fortune of our dear party. Right from this moment, I am assuring you that Oyo APC will continue to wax stronger as many people are coming to join us.”

Also commenting, Sen. AbdulFatai Buhari representing Oyo North Senatorial District called for patience and unity among members of the party across the state.

“We the elected representatives are fully aware of the challenges being faced by most of you in terms of empowerment and we shall continue to work hard to bring succour as desire while we would not shy away from discharging our duty as lawmakers and party ambassadors”.

In their separate remarks; the state Caretaker Chairman of the APC, Chief Akin Oke, and his deputy, Chief ‘Lekan Adeyemo, charged party faithful to do all within their power to mobilize aggressively for existing and prospective members to participate in the forthcoming membership registration and revalidation exercise which, according to them, would be a pointer to the fact that the APC remained the party in the state in the 2023 general election.

Speakers at the event also include; Hon. (Prince) Akeem Adeyemi, Hon. Asimiyu Alarape and Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye.

Other dignitaries who attended the occasion are; Hon. Tolulope Akande-Shadipe, Hon. Akin Alabi, Hon. Seyi Adisa, Hon. Babatunde Isiaka, Hon. Simeon Oyeleke, Engr. Idris Adeoye, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, Hon. Bimbo Kolade, Barr. Lowo Obisesan, Barr. Moruff Oyedemi, Engr. Faozey Nurudeen among others.
