The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Kano State Chapter, has vehemently rejected moves by the Government of Dr Umar Abdullahi Ganduje to borrow N10 billion for installing CCTV cameras at the five state emirate council headquarters.

The state Chairman of the congress, Kabiru Ado Minjibir, said in a statement that while the congress is not in any way against improving the security of lives and properties of its citizens, which is one of the sole responsibilities of the government, “we are of the opinion that, in the face of over N27 billion outstanding retirees’ benefits, such a step amounts to robbing Peter to pay Paul.”

The NLC said “providing CCTV in the name of improving security is curative, while payment of gratuity and other retirees’benefits is preventive, taking into consideration the multiplier effects.”

He said, though, the Congress is not unaware that, the liability was inherited by the incumbent government from the previous administrations since the commencement of the contributory pension scheme in 2007 largely due to the non-remittance of monthly contributions by some agencies of government, it is time for the incumbent administration to do the right thing in order to make a difference in the spirit of its change mantra.

”Indeed, pensioners and workers of Kano State will never forget any administration that settles this menace once and for all. It is based on the aforementioned that we wish to appeal to His Excellency the Executive Governor to make a case to the State House of Assembly for their assent to secure another loan to settle the outstanding Gratuity and other retirees’ benefits in the best interest of justice and humanitarian consideration,” Minjibir added.

“In fact, what is good for the goose is also good for the gander. We are hopeful and optimistic that His Excellency would consider this our ‘save our souls’ submission in view of the multiple positive stepthe Government will provide.”

•Solicits information support for police

IN response to the unfortunate bank robbery incident that left many security operatives and innocent individuals dead in Offa, Kwara state, the Oyo State Security Trust Fund has again called on the attention of the people of Oyo state not to leave the task of security of lives and property solely in the hands of the government but support same by reporting suspected criminal activities promptly to the security operatives.

While calling on the people to always avail the security operatives particularly the police, information that can help nip criminal activities in the bud, the agency says people must be ready and willing to partner with and support the government effort in the interest of sustaining peace.

The agency made the call while informing journalists of its plans to refurbish and repair security operatives vehicles, Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) as well as complete the installations of Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) in some crisis-prone areas in the state.

Speaking with journalists on Monday at the Onireke office of the agency after the meeting of the members of the board of the agency, the Executive Secretary of OYSSTF, Mr Femi Oyedipe said the latest release is the third phase of the agency support initiative to bolster the peace and security being enjoyed in the state.

Lamenting the high number of victims of the Offa bank robbery incident, Oyedipe wondered why such innocent people had to pay with their lives, insisting that the security agencies must be supported with valuable information about criminals and their activities, among others.

The OYSSTF Chief who did not disclosed the amount approved by the Board also said disclosing the areas the CCTV are being installed would be a direct information for criminals to know how to avoid such areas and perpetrate their crimes elsewhere.

His words, “the money released is to improve the security architecture of the state in the wake of recent Offa robbery incidents that left scores of security and civilians killed. The Trust Fund did the Phase 1 of Police vehicles repairs in August 2017, when 20 vehicles were added to the fleet of Operation Burst Vehicles.

“The Phase 2 held in December 2017 with the refurbishing of faulty vehicles for all security agencies in Oyo State. The latest release of funds is for the phase 3, which aims to buy and refurbish police Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC), patrol vehicles, and complement the state government initiatives in the completion of CCTV installations.

“The Board of Trustees of OYSSTF met on Friday, April 13, 2018, and it was agreed that all hands must be on deck in ensuring security is not left alone for government to fund, especially in the wake of the unfortunate bank robbery incident at Offa, Kwara state, where many lives were lost.

“It was sad that such a number of policemen could die in an incident occurring at a peacetime. We, therefore, called in all citizens to report any suspicious movement around them because the security agencies are to be supported by providing valuable information on criminals”.

The Executive Secretary, however assured that the Board will continue to support every government initiative in ensuring that the state remains safe for all, particularly with the recently released funds, which he said would enable the security agencies to increase their operational fleet as well as ensuring that their Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) are functional.

THE Executive Secretary, Oyo State Security Trust Fund, Mr Femi Oyedipe, has charged residents of the state to as a matter of contributing to their safety and security, report every suspected and unusual activities to the security agencies, if the fight against crime and criminality must be won.

Oyedipe also urged community leaders, religious leaders and social groups to instantly alert the security agencies of any crime, rather than hoarding the information and waiting to post it on the social media thereafter.

He gave the charge during a Town Hall meeting with the community leaders in Oyo zone as parts of sensitisation effort to discuss the introduction and collection of the State Security Levy, commencing soon.

https://iso.keq.mybluehost.me/military-not-buhari-responsible-for-herdsmen-boko-haram-menace-afe-babalola/

The zonal participants comprises all the towns within the Oyo Federal Constituency.

According to Oyedipe, the state government through the Oyo State Security Trust Fund is committed to making the state safer for its residents and more investor friendly in order to boost the economy.

In his words, “as a means of consolidating the efforts of the government on Security, Oyo State Security Trust Fund is working very hard with the security Agencies in the State. To increase security surveillance, Oyo State Security Trust Fund, in synergy with the Oyo State Government, has commenced the installation of CCTV in different areas of the State, with business and commercial districts being used as the pilot scheme.

“Mapo and its environs have also been listed to be part of the pilot scheme.
The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has released some funds to the contractors handling the installation of the CCTV in the State. These CCTVs will help in curbing crimes and criminal activities in our state”, he added.

Responding to requests for constant electricity to expose criminal hideouts, the Executive Secretary said that plans are underway by the Trust Fund, to provide solar powered street lights in major dark areas, to checkmate the activities of men of the underworld, particularly at night.

He, however reiterated the need for community leaders and residents to expose criminals in the community with the assurance that their identity would not be disclosed, saying that “our security agencies are now more professional in their job and they need every assistance to succeed in being part of our safe city initiatives”.
