Aderemi Oseni, has congratulated Professor Adeniyi Olowofela on the completion of his tenure as Commissioner representing Oyo State at the Federal Character Commission (FCC)

Oseni, who also chairs the House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), described Olowofela’s service at the commission as “diligent, impactful, and worthy of emulation.”

Olowofela, a former Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Oyo State and an indigene of Ido Local Government, served as the Director General of the Remi Oseni Campaign Council during the 2023 general elections.

In a statement by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele on Thursday, the federal lawmaker said, “Prof. Olowofela has once again demonstrated that leadership is about service to humanity. His tenure at the FCC was marked by integrity, excellence, and dedication to the ideals of fairness and equity. As a brother and fellow son of Ido Local Government, I am proud of the legacies he leaves behind.”

The All Progressives Congress lawmaker also lauded the appointment of Prince Ayodeji Abass Aleshinloye as Olowofela’s successor at the commission.

Aleshinloye, a former Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, was named by President Bola Tinubu as the new FCC Commissioner for Oyo State.

Oseni said, “I warmly welcome Prince Aleshinloye to this important assignment and urge him to build on the laudable achievements of his predecessor. Oyo State is blessed with capable leaders, and I believe his tenure will further strengthen our voice at the national level.”

He prayed for God’s guidance for both men in their future endeavours and called for support from stakeholders to ensure Oyo State continues to enjoy quality representation in federal institutions.

…accuses governor of using Ajimobi as diversion from economic mismanagement

A Federal Commissioner at the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela, has accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of using the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi to divert attention from what he described as the state’s worsening debt crisis under the current administration.

In a statement on Sunday and exclusively obtained by Mega Icon Magazine, Olowofela, a former commissioner for Education, Science and Technology under Ajimobi’s administration, said Makinde’s penchant for borrowing has reached alarming levels, with over ₦500 billion allegedly incurred in debts between May 2019 and June 2025.

This comes just days after the Oyo State House of Assembly approved yet another ₦63 billion loan request by Governor Makinde, reportedly earmarked for the renovation of the Government House.

The ex-council chief questioned the rationale behind such a huge loan for what he called a “cosmetic” project at a time when residents are grappling with poverty and food insecurity.

“It is on record that Governor Makinde has borrowed over ₦500 billion in six years. Now he wants another ₦63 billion just to renovate the Government House, yet he blames Ajimobi for the state’s financial woes,” Olowofela said.

According to him, the claim that the state is still struggling to repay debts incurred by Ajimobi is misleading. He clarified that the ₦7 billion agricultural loan procured under the Ajimobi administration was never accessed, as Governor Makinde, shortly after winning the 2019 election, instructed the bank not to release the funds to the outgoing government.

He noted that despite being the main beneficiary of the facility, Makinde’s government has yet to channel the funds into the intended agricultural projects in Akufo and Ibarapa six years later.

On the controversial World Bank-funded flood control initiative, Olowofela noted that while Ajimobi’s government accessed only 14 percent of the $200 million loan, the Makinde administration had drawn down the remaining 86 percent. He argued that this disqualifies Makinde from shifting blame to his predecessor for debts that largely benefited his own government.

“Logically speaking, if Governor Makinde is repaying these loans, then he is paying for funds he has spent. Crying foul is therefore diversionary and politically self-serving,” he said.

The federal commissioner also took a swipe at the Makinde administration for allegedly seizing a property belonging to the late Ajimobi, located near the Government House. He called for the immediate release of the property to the family of the late governor, urging the governor to rise above politics and act as a statesman.

“It’s been six years since Ajimobi left office and five years since his passing. If Governor Makinde still blames him for his own rudderless leadership, then perhaps he needs the services of a necromancer to resurrect Ajimobi,” he said.

He warned that any successor to Makinde in 2027 would need to be an “economic wizard” to salvage the state from its current fiscal trajectory.

“The people of Oyo State must begin to ask hard questions about the true state of our public finances and the priorities of those who lead us. Spending ₦63 billion on a building while the people go hungry is not governance — it is misplacement of priorities,” Olowofela concluded.

CONSTITUTION is essentially described as the embodiment of the most fundamental rules, principles and institutions which constitutes the political fabric of a state as well as human society. Meaning that, it entails the document that embodies the steps that determine how we do things in the society.

In essence, constitution helps to bring order and sanity to the society and for the good governance of the generality of the people.

Also, there are various types of constitution which include the following: written, unwritten, rigid and flexible, unitary and federal, confederal, presidential and parliamentary constitutions respectively.

But for the purpose of this discussion, focus shall be on the “Unwritten Constitution”.

Generally, constitutions are said to be “Unwritten” because they have evolved on the basis of custom rather than on written law. The reference point in this regard remains that of Great Britain. This is because it is a combination scattered in several documents and drawn from diverse sources from the 13th century to the present.

It includes Magna Carta of 1215, Petition of Rights, 1628; Bill of Rights, 1689; The Reform Act of 1832, the Parliamentary Act of 1911 and the rest are documents that represent a landmark in British Constitutionalism.

https://iso.keq.mybluehost.me/2019-olowofela-resigns-as-oyo-commissioner-picks-apc-nomination-form-for-ibarapa-east-federal-constituency-seat/

in conclusion, it entails therefore that they are not products of a single act or authority but a product of tradition and emerging needs.

It was on this background information that a federal constituency, in Oyo state, housing Ido and Ibarapa East Local Governments entered into an agreement that could be regarded as the “unwritten constitution” which has enjoyed almost 20 years without any cessation by jointly presenting a Federal Honourable which will represent the good people of Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency based on zoning arrangement.

The two councils have been enjoying the political turn taking, until 2015 when Ibarapa East Local Government held sway to have undue advantage over her Ido counterpart.

Meanwhile, the said “Unwritten Constitution” was agreed to, concluded and sealed between the two local governments that each zone shall enjoy two consecutive 4years each (8years) irrespective of any political faith.

In 1999, when Nigeria returned to full blown democracy, Honourable Sodiq Anwo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Alakaso, Ward 9 dusted Engr. Nureni Adisa of the then Alliance for Democracy (AD) both from Ido Local Government.

Following his welfarist programme , Honourable Sodiq Anwo replicated the same victory in 2003 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as against Dauda Azeez of Alliance for Democracy (AD) of Ward 2, Akufo in Ido Local Government. This exhausted the two terms tenure of the council.

https://iso.keq.mybluehost.me/ibarapa-east-bye-election-ogundoyin-emerges-pdp-candidate/

Continuing, in 2003-2007, the pendulum later swung to Ibarapa East, which Ido Local Government observed. This time around It was the turn of the council when Honourable Oluyemi Taiwo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contested and emerged as the winner in 2007 thrashing the likes of Honourable Sunday Adeyemi Adepoju of the defunct Action Congress (AC) among others.

Ibarapa East Local Government repeated her tenure in 2011 which produced the incumbent, Honourable Sunday Adepoju of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) emerging with 16,772 votes, as Honourable Oluyemi Taiwo who contested under the platform of the Accord Party (AP) scored 14,394 votes, while Oladapo Olusegun of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had 13,384 votes.

Breaching the agreement, Honourable Sunday Adepoju, having contested against Ido Local Government candidates, the council which houses the largest voting population with the support of his former party – the All Progressives Congress (APC) repeated same victory in 2015.

This indicates that the Ibarapa East Local Government would be spending 12years as Sunday Adepoju completes his uninterrupted 8years.

Without any breach of agreement, following the laid down tradition of the “Unwritten Constitution”, Ido Local Government, irrespective of Political affiliation must produce the next Federal Honourable that will represent the good people of Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency come 2015.

Interestingly, the stakeholders in Ibarapa East Local Government have conceded the ticket to Ido Local Government considering the zoning arrangement tagged ‘the gentleman’s agreement’

They stressed that the people are presently promoting the “need for a change of baton”

According to the political stakeholders in Ido Local Government who spoke with our reporter, “Ibarapa East Local Government has been in the helm of affairs in the last 12 years. This is a political turn-taking between the two councils irrespective of any political affiliation as a tradition and it has been helping us to maintain a peaceful political order.

“This tradition has really encouraged the principles of trust, respect for fairness, equity, and justice as well as ensuring balancing of power”.

However, ahead of the forthcoming general elections, the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the federal constituency has unanimously agreed to present a consensus candidate for Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency.

Under the ruling party, the immediate past Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology and ex-council gaffer of Ido Local Government, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela has been adopted by the party. Olowofela was the party Chairman, Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Ido Local Government. He also contested the council’s number seat under the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, (ANPP) in 2007 which he won in the controversial election conducted by former Governor Rashidi Ladoja.

Considering the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other oppositions in the constituency, major contenders are, the former Chairman of Ido LG and two – term state honourable, Hon. Adeola Adesina along side Comrade Busari Olumuyiwa Samod both from Ido Local Government chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ACD) struggling for the party ticket among others.

https://iso.keq.mybluehost.me/editorial-oyo-apc-not-too-late-to-unite-2/

While, one of the children of the famous PDP leader, Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, Sherrif Adeojo from Ido Local Government is currently battling with Honourable Oluyemi Taiwo, a former occupant of the seat from Lanlate in Ibarapa East Local Government to secure the PDP ticket.

Mega Icon Magazine reliably gathered that the embattled Honourable Sunday Adepoju ( From, Eruwa, in Ibarapa East LG) is still struggling and scheming to return under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) using all the arsenal within his reach, having defected from the APC, failing his political ‘god father’, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

But, based on strong indications on ground and information gathered, particularly the ‘quest for change of baton’, political parties and gladiators in Ido Local Government are ready to
support ‘Ido candidature’ irrespective of political faith to wrestle power for Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency come 2019.

2019 is around the corner, until then; the game is continuity as event unfolds.

OYO State Government has implemented the payment of the newly increased monthly subvention to tertiary institutions in the state last Friday.

The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela disclosed this on Tuesday at the flag – off ceremony for National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN), Oyo state chapter, 2017/2018 training program, held at Loyola College, Ibadan.

https://iso.keq.mybluehost.me/education-dawn-commission-adopts-oyo-sgbs-template/

Revealing further, Professor Olowofela analyzed that the following subventions had been released to the state owned tertiary institutions : “The Polytechnic Ibadan got N83,701,442 as against N51,850,721, Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, received N27,557,507 instead of N12,778,753.60, while the Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa collected N27, 907,151.46k instead of N12,453, 575.73k.

The Commissioner continued, ” also, Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo received N101,089,091.61k against previous N55,544,545.82k, the College of Education, Lanlate received N40,291,138.54k instead of N12,145,569.27k, and Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igbo-ora collected N43,090,139.06k as against N17,045,069.58k. The variance in the increase is due to the peculiarity of each institution”, he explained.

https://iso.keq.mybluehost.me/oyo-commissioner-laments-dearth-of-geophysicists-in-nigeria/

While maintaining that the government is doing its best to help cushion the financial implication of running these institutions, Olowofela also emphasized that the dwindling accruals to the state, called for belt-tightening measures.

https://iso.keq.mybluehost.me/education-ajimobi-secures-over-n20b-for-oyo-basic-secondary-schools-education/

The Commissioner, however highlighted abolition of mass promotion in public secondary schools, adoption of 80% class/subject attendance in public secondary schools, establishment of School Governing Boards (SGBs) and establishment of Education Monitoring Group, amongst other policies as efforts made by the government to improve on the dwindling performances of students of public secondary schools in the state in external examinations.

NIGERIAN youths have been admonished to say no to drug abuse and addiction due to its harmful effects to health.

Parents were also urged to check their young ones by examining their mood changes, as parental influence matters in checking this ugly trend.

Making the call at the inauguration of the newly elected executives of the National Parent-Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN), Oyo state chapter on Thursday held at Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela who raised alarm over the increasing number of Nigerian youths abusing drugs, also noted that the societal menace remained a major health problem globally as many Nigerian youth experiment with drugs at one point or the other.

https://iso.keq.mybluehost.me/education-oyo-holds-workshop-for-science-teachers-on-how-to-handle-laboratory-hazards/

“I want to admonish all parents that we should guide our children jealously, especially on the use of hard drugs. I am imploring NAPTAN to play meaningful roles in separating the youths from drugs”, the commissioner urged.

Prof. Olowofela added that youths had found a new past time in the consumption of hard drugs, cautioned them of the momentous negative health and social repercussions of drug addiction.

Congratulating the executives, Olowofela, however charged them to put in their best as much as possible towards reinvigorating the association.

THE Development Agenda for Western Nigeria, (DAWN) Commission has adopted School Governing Board (SGB) educational policy by Oyo state government towards enhancing educational development in the South West region.

Oyo state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela stated this on Thursday in Ibadan at the official commissioning of renovated and equipped physics laboratory; a project executed by the old girls (1968-1972 set) of St. Anne’s School, Molete.

The Commissioner said, “I am happy to tell you today that the School Governing Board (SGB) has been accepted by DAWN commission. All schools in the Southwest will adopt SGB as their educational policy”.

He added that the School Governing Boards (SGBs) in the past one year has expended no fewer than N2b on school infrastructure throughout the state.

It would be recalled that Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State inaugurated the School Governing Boards, (SGBs) in all the 628 Public Secondary Schools in the state. Having realized that no government can shoulder the responsibilities of education alone, the Board which has enjoyed the commitment and cooperation of old students, parents, philanthropists aims at restoring, transforming and repositioning the education sector.

Also, the commissioner further disclosed that Oyo state has been identified as the only state in the Southwest by World Bank to benefit from a grant of $578m which has been set aside for the next five years to tackle issue of out of school children.

Highlighting the efforts of the state government, Olowofela stressed, ” just last week, Oyo state government
awarded a contract of N3.7b for infrastructural development in all the primary schools and has also awarded a month ago a contract to renovate 100 secondary schools up to a tune of N2b. When you see all these developments you will see that the paradigm will change for good”.

Earlier in her welcome address, the school principal who commended the old girls averred that their passion for high standard education coupled with loyalty to their alma mater has produced a better template for teaching and learning in the school in terms of provision of facilities, renovations of the old buildings, introduction of various programmes and initiatives such as scholarship among others.

According to her, “as a major stakeholder in education, your collaborative efforts with other stakeholders – the parents, the community, the church are in line with the laudable programmes and policy of Oyo state government towards raising the standard of education to an enviable position among states in this nation”.

“At the heart of tradition, the principles of trust, respect for fairness, equity, and justice as well as ensuring balancing of power are critical points that must not be overlooked. Our council has spent twelve (12) years on this seat; we need to observe the zoning arrangement”.

Thanking the executives and other stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, the former council boss, Olowofela explained that he came to “consult and seek their supports” on his ambition.

He, however added that he can not make any move in that direction without the leaders’ input.

THE World Health Organization, WHO on Wednesday provided medicines for students of Primary and junior Secondary schools in Oyo State to cure tropical diseases that are endemic in the country.

The distribution of the medicines were made available during a flag off of School based deworming exercise in Ibadan by the Ministry of Health and Education, Science and Technology in conjunction with Evidence Action, the facilitator and partner of WHO.

Speaking at the flag off ceremony, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela noted that the exercise is long overdue because of the effect of worms on school aged children between age 5 and 14 years.

The Commissioner said the worms like Ring Worms, Hook Worms, Fluke Worms and others are contacted through dirty environment, improper disposal of human waste, bathing in dirty water, eating unwashed fruits, eating with unwashed hands after using the toilet, walking bare foot and others.

According to Olowofela, the program started in 2016 with different meetings on how the school children can be treated and worms can be eradicated in the state. He added that the organizers have taken pains to train people and in turn train teachers that will administer the medicine.

He said: “Our Children are going to be treated for free with medicine to eradicate worms. The medicines are Mebendazole and Prazequantel. These medicine are free and safe for our children”.

Justifying the essence of the program, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Azeez Adeduntan who was represented by the state Chairman of Primary Healthcare Board, Dr. Lanre Abass said children live in the environments that are not sanitized and fall victims of diseases therein, saying as a way to prevent the children from these endemic diseases was the reason the program was organized.

He explained further that children suffering from worms will be anaemic and the reproductive system affected later in life, stressing that worms affect the growth of the children, development of the brain, causes them to stay away from school and thereby affecting their academic performance.

Also speaking, the Southwest Coordinator of Evidence Action, Pharmacist Tope Ogunbi said the flagging off of school base deworming program targets two tropical diseases.

According to him, the diseases affect great numbers of people who can’t afford treatment and Nigeria is one of the countries endemic for the diseases.

“we have identified schools to carry out the program which are both private and public primary schools and Junior Secondary schools in the state. We have trained teachers in the school on how to administer medicines to the school children and the medicines are safe and free”, he said.
