A socio-political group, under the aegis of Itesiwaju-Oyo Coalition rooting for the emergence of the African Democratic Congress, (ADC) governorship candidate, Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin, on Sunday attacked Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state over a statement credited to him that those contesting against the All Progressives Congress, APC, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu, from Ibadan are people who don’t have traceable family history and those who corruptly enriched themselves.

But, the group in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Mr Bolarinwa Aliu, a copy obtained by Mega Icon Magazine said the governor is suffering from what it called mouth diarrhea.

The group emphasized that Lanlehin is someone whose family history is well known, even beyond Ibadan, his hometown.

According to the group, “though we wouldn’t have loved to join Issue with outgoing Governor Abiola Ajimobi because in the recent tirade is not unknown to those of us in the political circle. However, we will like to educate Ajimobi on how not derail politically.

“The governor’s vituperation, to us, is a failed attempt to sell the candidacy of Adelabu to the unsuspecting members of the public. The Adelabu that we know cannot be packaged in a positive ways to the public. Rather than tell the whole world what the ruling party has done to better the lot of the people of the state in close to 8 years, the governor was running his mouth, an act which is unbecoming of someone leaving office after two terms in office.

“While Lanlehin’s father, late Chief Samuel Owoola Lanlehin, was a distinguished Nigerian and a close ally of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, during his lifetime, Adelabu’s grandfather, the late Alhaji Adegoke Adelabu, on whose ‘records’ Adelabu hinges his campaign, was everything retrogressive.

“Apart from Africa in Ebullition, we doubt if the young Adelabu and his principal, Ajimobi, have read books written by people about the late Penkelemesi. Despite his brilliance in school, the late Penkelemesi, for selfish political reasons, was against late Awolowo’s free education policy, especially in Ibadan. He mobilized Ibadan people against Awolowo.

“We wonder how a shameless Ajimobi will go further to say that those who are contesting with Adelabu corruptly enriched themselves. We wouldn’t want to say the governor doesn’t think before he talks because of the exalted position he holds.

The Adelabu he promotes is someone who made all his wealth through public service. This is someone who despite the civil service rules, flaunts wealth without caution. In a saner democracy, we know what would have happened,” the statement stressed.

The group further advised Governor Ajimobi to start perfecting his papers as “numerous petitions which bother on alleged financial recklessless await him at the anti-graft coming commissions.”

THE Action Democratic Party (ADP), Oyo State chapter has called on the people of the state to troop out en masse in the last few days of the Permanent Voters Registration (PVC) exercise to register for the 2019 elections.

The party in a press statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Hon Lawal Akindele, in Ibadan and made available to Mega Icon Magazine reminded the indigenes of the state that their vote is the weapon they have to change the government in the state for a better one.

Oyo Guber Race: Akande to Contest Under ADP Ticket

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) noted that it was time for the people to take action and move away from the lamentations of bad government in the state which has become a pastime of the people in the state.

Action Democratic Party (ADP) noted that the complaints about none payment of salaries, dirty cities, government- induced frictions among traditional rulers and chiefs, bad roads, inadequate healthcare service and other inadequacies in the state will remain continue unless the people harness their voting power to vote in the Action Democratic Party in the 2019 elections.

2019: Oyo SSG, Ali finally joins guber race

“The complaints against the incumbent government on all fronts will remain mere lamentation unless we exercise our rights to vote in a new government next year

“The quest for a good government in Oyo State is widespread and the loud clamour is loud in every street corner. However, it is time for us to take action and go beyond mere complaints.

“Let us troop out in the remaining days of the voter registration exercise so that we are qualified to be part of the historic process of changing the incumbent government to a better one next year.

“The Action Democratic Party, (ADP) is determined to ensure quality free education programme that will be free at the primary and secondary levels, provide bursary and loans to students and ensure the release of full subvention to higher institutions to guarantee payment of salaries to lecturers and workers and guarantee uninterrupted academic programmes in the institutions.

“The Action Democratic Party, (ADP) will also leverage on agriculture, solid minerals, tourism and the creative energy of our youths in ICT to improve the revenue profile of the state so that government can deliver on its responsibilities to the people of the state”.

Akindele also noted that the promises of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) cannot be actualised in the state unless the people exercise their right to vote which they can do only if they register for the elections.

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) further appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use the few remaining days to take the exercise to those areas which have not had the opportunity of registering for the exercise.

“We appeal to INEC to please identify those areas where complaints have been loud about lack of INEC registration facilities. We plead that INEC provide materials for the exercise in these areas so as to allow the people to register to perform their civic responsibility”.

The Coalition For New Nigeria, a political movement being championed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo has announced its fusion with African Democratic Congress, ADC, as a political platform on which its members would contest the 2019 general election.

A co-convener of CNM, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, announced the adoption at of ADC as the platform on which members of the Coalition will seek to ensure that the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party are driven out of power at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.

While announcing the collapse of the CNM into ADC, Oyinlola lamented that the situation of the country has continued to worsen. He added that the country is in danger and in need or urgent rescue.

The former governor of Osun State said, “We have said it before and we are stating it here again that the current state of despair and despondency in our dear country is an ill wind.

“It is foreboding and can only lead to a conflagration. Between January when CNM was formed and now, can we say that the story of Nigeria has changed for the better? Have things not worsened at all levels?

“I thank all of you for being here today. You will all recall that in January this year, the Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CNM, was formed by some of us across the country as a political platform to create a new generation of leaders for our country.

“Between that time and today, a lot of grounds has been covered in achieving the set goals. One of such is what we are doing here today – the formal fusing of – our movement into the African Democratic Congress”.

Oyinlola said CNM will take on the rescuing Nigeria not minding the inconveniences and other expected and unexpected consequences of their efforts at reinventing the country.

While pointing out that structural inadequacies and failure of leadership have robbed Nigeria of greatness, Oyinlola noted that, “a future of greatness for Nigeria will only be birthed by a new generation of youthful leaders with fresh ideas and knowledge of what it takes to govern a 21st century nation”.

“This gathering here today is a proof that the modest efforts at waking up the vast majority of our people to for once, take their destiny in their hands as demanded by the constitution are bearing fruits already. Our constitution guarantees all Nigerians their fundamental human rights, including freedom of association and the right to hold political views ” he said.

He added that the decision of the coalition to fuse with African Democratic Congress is an appreciation of the progressive essence of the party and its untainted existence on the terrain of our Nigeria’s politics.

Afenifere Chieftain, Chief Ayo Adebnjo has released a book in which he described former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration as a calamity.

Adebanjo berated Obasanjo in his autobiography titled ‘Telling It As It Is,’ which was publicly presented in Lagos.

In the book, read by Professor Wale Adebamwi, the author took a swipe at on Obasanjo.

Adebanjo said: “If it were to be in a decent society, Obasanjo will not feature in public anymore.’’

“It amazes him how people give Obasanjo ‘undue prominence in spite of his known character.

Obasanjo’s tenure as President, he declared was a calamity.

He added Obasanjo had not refuted all the negative things said about him.

“If it were to be in a decent society, people like him will not feature in public light again.’’

There’s more, when you read the book,” Adebamwi, the book reviewer said.

Adebanwi said further that the book is sharpest criticism for a fellow Yoruba leader.

The author, in the book, described Obasanjo’s eight years in government between 1999 and 2007 as a civilian President as a tragedy and calamity, declaring that his scorecard was nothing to write home about.

“The man who carried on as if he was all-in-all failed woefully on all counts as President.

“His eight-year tenure (1999-2007) was a tragedy. His scorecard was nothing to write home about.

“What did he do in eight years? Before he came, we were buying fuel for N20 per litre, and crude oil was $23 per barrel. In 2007, under his regime, we were buying fuel at N75 per litre, and crude oil was between $65 and $75 per barrel. In the worst days of Abacha, one dollar was over N120,” Adebanjo wrote in the book.

In the book, Adebanjo did not only fault Obasanjo’s eight-year democratic rule, he raised the question of Chief Bola Ige’s decision to join the Obasanjo’s administration which he ranked as one of the gravest and one of the most fatal political errors ever committed by a leading progressive politician in Nigeria’s history.

The author, however, describes Chief Ige as brilliant, one of the greatest Awoist.

“We were opposed to Ige joining Obasanjo’s cabinet but he accepted the appointment oblivious of the fact that Obasanjo was not inviting him in good faith.

“Bola Ige didn’t need Obasanjo, it was Obasanjo who needed Ige.

“However, how a man of such superb and enviable endowment could join the cabinet of one of the most perverse figures in our political history is a question that the author attempts to grabble with in this book,” Adebamwi added while reviewing the book.
