No fewer than 3,599 out of the 3,997 delegates that participated in the primary election affirmed his nomination at the party Senatorial primary held in Iseyin.

The event which was conducted by representatives of the National body of the party, comprises of Barrister Ejiro Etaghene, Dr Hassim Adda and Sarah Egye Amiyawa was also supervised by security agencies and members of staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC)

The affirmation which started around 10pm lasted few hours with all the delegates making voice affirmation and declaring total support for Senator Buhari’s return to the senate.

Dr Hassim Adda who conducted the exercise commended the delegates for their patience and understanding, urging them not to relent in their effort in ensuring that APC wins subsequent elections in the state

He maintained that the party is poised to strengthen democracy and make life better for all and sundry in the country through provision of basic amenities, infrastructural development and creating enabling environment for promotion of commerce and industry

In his acceptance speech, Senator Buhari thanked the party leaders and members for reposing confidence in him with their votes.

” In 2014, we did the same exercise here and you supported me, and prayed for me to succeed, together we have been able to achieve what we are able to do so far in the area of empowerment, infrastructural development and legislative duties.

“Today you have demonstrated another level of courage and believe in me to to further represent you at the upper chamber of the National Assembly and I want to assure you that you will not regret it because i wont betray the confidence you reposed in me.

“I will continue to work to enhance the progress of my constituents and constituency in accordance with the party manifesto to promote the integrity and ideology of APC”, he added.

The Senatorial Chairman, Alhaji Radaq Arikewuyo in his remark said ” The choice of Senator Buhari is buoyed by his outstanding performance as a lawmaker, his achievements are unprecedented and monumental and we want him to continue the good work, we are proud of him and as a disciplined party that cherish service to humanity and great performances, we agreed that he should return to the senate unopposed and that is why you can see the large turn out today

“This is the first time such thing is happening in the whole of Oyo state and we consider it a rare privilege  because its a kind of honour and reward for Senator Buhari and we want to thank Senatot Ajimobi, the Executive Governor of Oyo state, party leaders and other stakeholders for their supports”, he said.

Also, a chieftain of the party in Oke Ogun, Chief Ezekiel Olaogun expressed optimism that Senator Buhari’s second term will be far better than his first term.

According to Olaogun, “he is an achiever, and a core progressive, he would perform better and facilitate more development to the constituency this time around ”

Party stalwart at the event include, Hon Isaac Ajiboye Omodewu, State Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Survey, Hon. Dauda Oladimeji, State Commissioner for Works and Transport,  Hon Isaac Ishola, State Commissioner for Environment, Senatorial Youth and Women leaders, Council Chairmen and Councilors, Party Executives among others.

The Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Olalekan Alli reiterated this while delivering the message of the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi to the delegates of Benin Republic led by the Chief of Staff to the President of Benin Republic, William Comlan held at Agodi state Secretariat Ibadan.

Alli told the delegates from Benin Republic that since inception of this administration in 2011 priority has been given to lives and property of the people in the state.

His words, “it is apt to say that the collaboration of Nigeria and Benin Republic has became imperative given the complex problems of trans human and the need to checkmate the activities of herdsmen in West Africa.

He noted that the movement of livestock from one grazing ground to another in a season cycle, typically to lowlands in dry season and highlands in rainy season had led to vices such as kidnapping, banditry and destruction of farmlands by herdsmen which cause frosty relationship between border communities.

“Although, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Nigerian Government are spearheading the problems associated with trans human and its attendant security concerns in the sub- region, our government continues to adopt various methods of managing farmers/herdsmen crisis in the state”, the APC guber hopeful, Alli added.

The leader of the delegation, William Comlan who is the Chief of Staff to the President of Benin Republic appreciated the Oyo state government for making the state comfortable for Benin citizens and ensure smooth relationship between Benin Republic and Oyo state.

The visit, according to William Comlan is in respect of Management of Cross border trans human between Nigeria and Benin Republic.

He explained that the government of Benin Republic will collaborate with the state government at curbing some of the challenges facing the Oyo state through borders and strengthen bilateral relationship between them.

Shortly after the courtesy visit, the team later moved to Western Hall of the Oyo State House of Assembly complex to hold stakeholders meeting with leaders of the borders community.

At the stakeholders meeting, issues affecting the borders’ communities were extensively discussed with delegation from Benin Republic and representative of the Oyo state government.

Oyo state shares international boundary with Benin Republic in Atisbo, Iwajowa and Saki West Local Governments with Okerete Ayegun Wasinmi and Aba wule as the closest communities to the international boundary.

Hon Oyeniran, who represented Oluyole State Constituency was a member of the 7th Oyo State House of Assembly, and also the Majority Leader of the House. The irate party members who confided in Mega Icon Magazine said, “he was very nice and accommodating and did everything he could to support the party, (APC) and Governor Abiola Ajimobi led government”.

Mega Icon Magazine exclusively gathered that during the build up to the 2015 general elections, the former majority leader signified his interest to recontest like his colleagues in the APC for the state assembly election by obtaining both the expression of interest form and nomination form.

He was neither told nor persuaded by anybody to step down or not to re-contest for the election. On the 6th December, 2014, he contested for the primary election alongside other four aspirants. The ex-lawmaker, Oyeniran defeated other four aspirants by polling 138 votes.

His second runner up and the present occupant of the seat, Hon. Muideen Abiodun Wahab popularly addressed as ‘Deen Abbey’ scored 116 votes. Having scored the highest number of lawful votes in the said primary election, Oyeniran was returned as the candidate of the party.

However, our further checks revealed that his victory in the said election was upturned by some  leaders in the local government in connivance with some State executives. His ticket was hijacked and given to his runner up, Mr Muideen Abiodun who got 116 votes in the party primaries. Their reason was that Hon. Oyeniran is too old and there is likelihood that he would be defeated during the House of Assembly election slated for 11th April, 2015.

Not satisfied with the injustice done to him, the ex-lawmaker headed to the High Court of Justice, Ibadan to reclaim his stolen mandate.

Interestingly, the case he instituted in suit no: I/17/2015 against Hon. Muideen Wahab Abiodun, the APC Oyo State and the INEC has not been fixed for hearing and it has been adjourned for more than twenty (20) times till now.

This is the case wherein the mandate being claimed by the plaintiff, Hon. Oyeniran will last for four years and two years has already gone without any tentative date when the hearing would commence.

In a related development, Mr. Olujide Adewale, former Commissioner for Environment and Habitat in Oyo State also suffered the same fate. He polled 129 votes during the party primary for the House of Representatives election to defeat his closest rival, Hon. Sunbo Olugbemi who recorded 128 votes. His victory was also upturned by the party and was given to Olugbemi. He went to the Federal High Court, Ibadan to seek redress and his case is still pending before the court not yet heard.

It would be recalled that sometimes last year, the state executives of the APC issued a release that the party has expelled both Hon. Oyeniran Akande and Jide Adewale for anti party activities. Mega Icon Magazine learnt that the party took that steps having failed to pressurize the duo to withdraw the cases they instituted to reclaim their mandates.

Prior to the conduct of the party primaries, Mega Icon Magazine learnt that Hon. Oyeniran spent a huge amount of money and campaigned vigorously ahead of the election. Shortly after the election, he lost his daughter with her husband and their two children in a ghastly motor accident along Ogbomosho Oyo road.
