The Joint Union Congress of the Police Service Commission (PSC) has demanded the immediate removal of Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, accusing him of undue interference in the recent police constable recruitment process.
The union’s outcry was accompanied by allegations of attempted name smuggling by senior officers within the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).
During a heated press briefing held on Wednesday in Abuja, representatives of the union voiced their grievances, asserting that the integrity of the recruitment exercise had been compromised.
They claimed that certain high-ranking officials within the NPF had attempted to manipulate the recruitment by unlawfully including names of candidates.
In a symbolic gesture of dissent, members of the union reportedly sang protest songs, condemning what they described as diversionary tactics employed by the NPF in response to their concerns.
The union further alleged that these actions were aimed at deflecting attention from the inadequate state of police training facilities across the country.
According to the union, these facilities are ill-equipped to handle the necessary training for recruits, thereby jeopardizing the effectiveness of the newly enlisted constables.
The controversy escalated following the release of a list by the PSC, announcing the selection of 10,000 successful candidates from the recent recruitment drive.
However, this announcement was swiftly met with rejection and accusations of fraudulence from the NPF itself.
