Published

on

SENATOR Fatimat Raji Rasaki, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial district informed that she dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join hands with other progressive elements at rescuing the state from the gridlock of Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Senator Rasaki described her former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as a party where their aspirations can no longer be met.

Contained in a statement signed and made available to Mega Icon Magazine, the wife of former military administrator of Lagos State, Gen. Raji Rasaki hinted further, “Ekiti today is subjected to a state of political anomie by a monster who has muscled and monopolised reasonable avenues of expressing descent view and opinion which could have placed PDP in the state within the admirable view of the people who are languishing and being daily tormented by inclement policies from Governor Fayose’s stable.

“Party or no party, I am an Ekiti person, I love my people and my people loves me. I don’t want to incure the curse of those who have ensured my being a sucessful and relevant political fellow to stay behind, while they are leaving in their drove and multitute, deserting PDP a party.

“l am driven to join APC in Ekiti State, not because of lucre or otherwise, or for the politics of the desire to satisfy personal ego but by responding to my inner stimuli to join hands with other progressive elements at rescuing our dearest states from the gridlock of the vampire.

“It will be unwise on my part to indulge in the act of commiting a grevious political suicide if I allow my selfish and personal consideration to becloud my sense of service by waiting behind in PDP in Ekiti State, which has been programmed under oath to continue in the Fayose Eleka evil continuity for total impoverishment of my people”, the statement continued.

While rallying supports for the APC candidate for the July 14 governorship election, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the lawmaker added: “I am appealing to the people who are still clinching to the pillar of bad governance in the state to steer clear of Fayose -Eleka continuity of evil and climb the liberation podium of Dr. Kayode Fayemi whom God has raised to disentangle Ekiti State from the shackles of Fayose’s political recklessness and rascality.

“I am happy the masses of Ekiti have seen and realised the grand deceptive tactics of Fayose, and have resolved to say goodbye to Jatijati in Ekiti.”

Also, she commended Fayemi for summoning the courage like Moses in the Bible to rise up and lead in this mission of chasing away the pharaoh.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, faces a tumultuous time as members of his ward, the Ganduje Ward in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, have suspended him.

It was announced by the Executive Council of Ganduje Ward, led by Haruna Gwanjo, during a press briefing in Kano on Monday.

The suspension comes amidst lingering corruption allegations, notably surrounding a viral video from 2017 depicting Ganduje allegedly receiving bundles of dollar notes as a bribe and stuffing them into his garments.

Despite Ganduje’s initial denial and maintenance of innocence, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) administration, under Governor Abba Yusuf, has reopened the case.

The Kano High Court is set to arraign Ganduje on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, on charges including bribery, diversion, and misappropriation of funds.

Mega Icon Magazine gathered that the allegations involve the purported acceptance of $413,000 and N1.38 billion in bribes. The State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, confirmed that Ganduje, along with his wife and six others, will face trial.

The Yusuf administration has vowed to present 15 witnesses to testify before Justice Usman Na’aba of the State High Court, indicating the seriousness with which the case is being pursued.

APC Urges Fairness in Oyo LG Election

Published

on

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has reiterated its call for Governor Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) to ensure the forthcoming local government council election is conducted with fairness and credibility as all eyes are on them.

The party had initially considered boycotting the election due to the absence of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), citing the interest of the masses who desired urgent discontinuation of attempts by the Makinde administration to completely render the third tier of government useless.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Oyo APC appealed to voters in the state to shun apathy and come out on April 27 to cast their ballots for its candidates as “doing so would be the only antidote to the imminent total collapse of the 33 local government councils as well as erosion of democracy from the grassroots level.”

“As a responsible political party, the question of whether we would participate in the planned election has been addressed. For the sake of the record, we never shied away from performing our duties as this concerns fielding credible candidates for lawful elections and ensuring citizens’ participation in constitutional democratic processes. We insisted on the usage of BVAS for this election because we wanted OYSIEC to be fair to all parties concerned and it should be known that the machines could not function in favour of our party alone on the day of the election.”

“But when it became obvious that OYSIEC would not be able to secure the machines from INEC, we mobilized some other serious parties and got assurances of ideal conduct of the April 27 poll from the state electoral body. We got the OYSIEC chairman, Aare Isiaka Olagunju SAN, and his Commission to restate their commitment to a free, fair, and credible poll as they agreed to the following terms; one, only original an owner of a PVC, who shows up at the polling unit on the day of the election, will be eligible to cast his or her vote. Two, Comprehensive Voter Register will be reproduced and pasted on the wall of each Polling Unit three or four days before the poll.”

“Three; no Amotekun Corps, PMS employees, or officials of security outfits not owned by the Federal Government will be involved in election duty. Four; representatives of each participating political party will be allowed to inspect sensitive poll materials and also follow up on the distribution of the same materials to guarantee transparency and accountability. Five; foreign and local organisations who have applied for accreditation to serve as Observers and Monitors on the day of the election will be considered and given special identification tags as no elected or appointed officials of either local, state, or federal government will have the right move round in the guise of monitoring the poll.”
