Benue Attacks: Senate issues IGP 14 days ultimatum to arrest perpetrators

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr Ibrahim Idris, to investigate and arrest the perpetrators of the Benue attacks that led to the death of over 73 persons.

The two chambers of the National Assembly as they resumed plenary for the first time this year jointly condemned the vicious attacks by suspected herdsmen.

The House of Representatives noted that it will set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the killings in Benue and other states of the country and report back in four weeks.

Following President Buhari’s order to help restore law, order and prevent further loss of lives and properties, the IGP arrived Benue State on Wednesday,

He disclosed further that, no fewer than three counter-terrorism units have been deployed alongside mobile policemen to the state,  assuring that all those behind the incessant killings will be brought to justice.
